Acid Music Studio 9... Any opinion ?

That was the impression from Sony I got when they aquired Acid from Vegas. They actually downgraded and dummy downed the program so much so that I walked away. I'd even participated in a few acid threads concerning this and the big wigs at sony stated they were not interested in the market. They wanted less features for a less informed crowd. Oddly I was getting a lot of paid work from acid users at the time. More so then from the Pro Tools crowd.

For ease and production quality nothing beats Samplitude. It just kicks but for more traditional recording. Now if I were to state for "contemporary styles" such as dubstep, electro, acid jazz that's where Abelton Live rules supreme. It takes a lot of getting used to but well worth the additional effort for what the program can do.

Acid is a pretty cool app, imo, mmv.

Having said that, I don't personally think Sony (as a corporation) has any real interest in fighting the DAW war, trying to follow every move of the others... not with Acid. They obviously have the money and resources to do whatever they want with it, I just don't think they're all that interested. They'll probably just continue with updates at their own pace and not really care much what anyone else is doing with their audio workstations.

I doubt if Acid sales would ever be more than an extremely tiny blip on their profit radar. Sony is a huge corporation. They certainly won't live or die on Acid sales, acceptance, whatever.

LawrenceF, this is an observation that i find acute and intelligent ... i brought back to mind a product that, in the very recent past, has shown how Sony manages to be "stubborn": the MiniDisc ... A complete commercial failure but it has remained for years and years on the market ...

tapper mike: I know very little Samplitude, i can see on the Magix site that it is a software with an interface very attractive but it seems to me that its price is definitely for the professional audience ...!

Much of the price can be attributed to the build in/priced in sounds and effects.
It would be akin to buying....Cubase and then buying stienbergs entire vst/vsti collection.
