I figure if I wait I might get some good reviews to check out, that would be great for me obviously. Time will tell I guesszerocrossing wrote:Yeah, the Torpedo concept could be a godsend... but the expense coupled with the cost and lack of possibility to actually demo one put me off.Hink wrote:I'm keeping an eye on the torpedo, in concept I like it but I need to try it first and the building of an iso box in the future may still be a better way for me (note I said a box, not a cab, I want one I can put a cab or a combo in but there is no way I am paying the price such boxes go for when I can build one for less than a months worth of gas).
Next up for me though is a ribbon mic and more speakers (Rob, you need to sell a ribbon mic), I have found some nice deals on speakers though another mod I need to make to my iso cab is to make the speaker leads about a foot longer so I dont scratch the hell out of my hands (they leave me about 3" of spare space)
Dean, sorry for the ARGGGGGGG on FB, I couldn't resist

Dean, it can get crowded quickly inside my iso cabDean Aka Nekro wrote:Are those the one's which nail that 121 style Eric? If so as I recall us talking ribbons a few times, Then IME too for guitar cabs its really hard to go wrong with one and yeah like I've said for ever John having 3 is even more than 2 on the speaker and does all You're eq except HPF/precise mix sitting right at source. Can't recommend a decent ribbon along with either a couple of decent dyamics or a dynamic and condenser (which is Your current setup). I won't rattle on why as I've done it all beforeUncle E wrote:We sell ribbon mics. Here are some that I had specially-made for us:Hink wrote:Next up for me though is a ribbon mic and more speakers

This is the one that nails the 121 look but the transformer isn't nearly as good so you need a really high impedance input preamp to get it to sound similar. This one still sounds good, it just has a lot more high frequency roll-off than a 121 when used with a low impedance input preamp. I really like mixing the NOS together with an SM57, which provides the fullness of a large diaphragm condenser without the high frequency mess.Dean Aka Nekro wrote:Are those the one's which nail that 121 style Eric?

if I built a cabinet for the new Frenzel with a flip top I could easily make another smaller one without the flip top for the littlier [sic] Frenzel (both are fairly small and I have enough of the metal grate to do both AND the Egnater). Then all my amps would have the same look with the black grate for very little extra investment if any at all. My friend does home improvement and I could build the cabinets for the Frenzels from scraps of wood he has

Sounds good enough for my needs definately, Yeah maybe not as a pair of drum overheads but on a cab ideal as I really never bought a ribbon for its high-frequency performance other than have used some of the newer active designs as drum overheads (as they extended high enough without sounding that harsh at all). So would work for me I'm sure, Cheers manUncle E wrote:This is the one that nails the 121 look but the transformer isn't nearly as good so you need a really high impedance input preamp to get it to sound similar. Candy to the ears if you like the pure vintage tones of the 40's - 50's tube amps. Big bottle 6SL7 preamps and a pair of warm 6V6's! Think early Les Paul tones! Oh yeah!
not my next amp, but what a deal"SURFER" VINTAGE TUBE TREMOLO - pure tube tremolo for those vintage vibe tones. Great for surf music! Comes with Depth and Speed controls on front panel.and footswitch pedal.
445usd, 495usd with tremolo

It's not the original cube. It's not the XL or an X although it's a similar layout.
While they claim it's "COSM" technology it sound like just a bunch of eq to me.
Everything is "sorta like" something you've heard before but none of the presets sound enough like the real deal. Even the JC sound in it is crap.
At least my pignose has personality. I miss my traynor bass amp the most. It puts fender bassman amps to shame with warmth and brilliance.

Well, none of that COSM stuff has ever sounded good to me in any of its forms. I was a big proponent of the VG-8 for a long time but that was more for its synthesis capabilities, the amp and guitar modeling side of it was never great.tapper mike wrote:While they claim it's "COSM" technology it sound like just a bunch of eq to me.

I've got one of those as a combo. It's nearly the size of a 4x12 cabinet!I miss my traynor bass amp the most.

yesterday for s&gs I watched an auction for an Ampeg V2, it had 16 hours to go and was at 300 dollars...it sold for 306 dollars and it was from Kingston Mass, not close enough for to want to drive...but where are these deals when I'm looking. It looked to be in great shape and I always wanted V2
