Hi Kvrians/Appleheadz

What is the best Audio and Midi interface for the iPhone available atm?/ Do you know of any future (hopefully not to distant) developments in this area?

ATM I can only find Tascam IU2, but this seems to be a very dodgy option, so I'd rather shell out for something more expensive but more reliable at the same time.

Many thanks

Mikie

PS. I guess google is always right lol, but maybe any rumours of any hardware coming??? IK Multimedia Guys Wink ??? There is nothing that could replace the "loopy" app and an iphone but without proper audio + midi connection its still unusable on iphone... (i know ipad does ckk stuff...) Crying or Very sad

If you wanted to go this route, you can jailbreak and use the camera connection tweak. I did it and midi works with the cck, although I noticed that with my alpha juno providing the midi via a midi to usb adapter (generic ebay) plugged into cck (also generic but looks the same and doesn't have issues) the pitch bend lever causes all sorts of midi chaos. Could be unique to the juno, not sure. I tested my xio during a soundcheck using a friend's cck that he happened to have with him, but I don't remember if that was an issue. I did try audio into garageband quickly at that point as well, through the xio, and it didn't work, but again, it was a very fast check during soundcheck and I didn't have time to really fool around. My xio is not currently with me, and it is possible that its audio interface is not ios compatible. I am studying for a licensing exam next week, but if I have some time to grab my xio today and test it all later tonight with my iphone and wife's ipad I can post a more definitive answer. If I don't have time tonight, someone remind me next week and I will definitely do it as I would like an answer too. I will be getting an ipad in a month or so if all goes according to plan, and my main audio interface is firewire, so I may plan for a two channel usb interface as well if the xio doesn't fit the bill.

Hi mrufino1

Thank you for elaborating on this Very Happy

I guess a jailbreak is a too sketchy solution for me atm as I am using an iPhone 4S and read users report no support for the cck hack or some but with crazy drop outs, midi stuck notes/messages etc...

If you got time to test it though and your iPhone is 4S too, that would be highly appreciated.

PS. Sorry to mentioned this childish moment/comment but "my wife's iPad" made me chuckle like a schoolboy lol HiHi I blame Mad TV

I would still recommend the iu2 for iPhone. I suspect that the flakeyness reported is due to a combination of HW (phone and interface) and SW (iOS and app)
Were there specific apps you were thinking of running? I could try them out on my setup. (iU2 and 4s)

Hi, yeah I know and I am about to purchase the IU2...

As in the previous post the apps I am willing to use are

Camera connection kit with novation xio works great. Audio input worked in blue fire and garage band, midi was no problem except on animoog, which doesn't respond to pitch bend or mod. But I believe that's a known issue with animoog, my synthstation is the same with it. No midi craziness with pitchbend on other synths.

Bought and returned the Tascam IU2, very unreliable. Though I was using it on an iPad.

@letthedogdrive

well I only have an iPhone but tbh if I would own an iPad I wouldn't even bother with this interface, just get cck and use one of the core audio/midi interfaces available on the market and there's plenty.

So this thread's point still stands... anybody able to put any useful insider's view on the tascam iu2 on an iphone 4s???
Help

One thing to be awaur of is that you can't yet route the output of any app to the input of Loopy.
Just thought I would mention it in case you were expecting to be abot to loop your performance on IK vocalive that's not yet possable. Also it is not possable to use vocalive to effect the output of loopy in real time Sad you have to use audio copy and paste.
If you are planning on using 2 seperate inputs one to loopy and one to IK Vocalive then this may be do able.

I can say that I don't have any issues with loopy and the iU2 using an FCB1010 to MIDI control loopy
