Hello all,

I recently installed the latest OS5 update for my Virus Desktop, it's a Beta version, but i installed it and i'm getting crackles and pops when i play anything from it, and can hardly hear any of the patches i play. So i reverted back to my previous OS, which was 4.5.3, and the same problem is still persisting when in the Virus Control software trying to play something.

All audio and USB drivers match up and there are no conflicts/yellow exclamation marks showing in my device manager.

It's more than likely a driver issue as normal, but i've never had any probs at all updating the OS with my Virus until now, very strange this one.

Tech support are looking at this at Access, but i thought i'd throw the question up on here if anyone has had a similar thing happen, and offer another solution/tweak i could try?

My Windows OS is Windows 7, and my audio card is the RME 9632.

Many thanks,

Wayne.

My system acted very strangely after installing OS5. Not only Virus itself but the whole PC. I cleared the old software and drivers (in safe mode). Put 4.5 back and everything seems to act normal. It's definitely issue with the drivers.

Many thanks, and there's a thing i've not tried, safe mode! I wonder if this will make a difference, worth a try i think. Cheers.

Nope, still not having it at all, not even in safe mode. I'm occasionally getting the blue screen of death as i try to update the drivers. The unit is just producing a continuous stream of crackling from within Cubase 6 everytime i press a note on my keyboard!

What a mistake installing the latest Beta OS from Access, it's the first and last time i shall do this!

Has anyone else had any probs re installing a previous OS for the Virus TI?

Yep, exactly the same issue here. Installed OS5 it crackled and got out of sync and now when I revert back to 4.5.3 it is even worse, just noise when i play a key. Tried different usb ports, nothing... Now trying to go even more back, to older drivers maybe some of that will work to get everything back.

EDIT: Ok, I think I got it.

I uninstalled all the access virus files (control panel->programs features->uninstall virus), then uninstall usb, audio and midi driver in the device manager(and check the delete blabla box in the pop up window), then turn off the virus.

Install Virus TI Installer 4.1.1.05 but don't turn on the virus when it asks, just press ok. It will install everything and when you click "finish" it'll ask to restart the system. Press ok and while the computer is rebooting turn on the virus, it'll recognize and update it. Check the sound and if it works just update to 4.5.3 normally.

Best thing you can do is report it to Access so they can fix it in the next beta round.

Cheers. @aMUSEd, yes i've already done that, they are scratching their heads with my problem, it absolutely will not update to the previous 4.5.3 version at all! Im getting the BSOD on occasion, it's annoying as hell. From having absolutely no problems at all updating over the years their OS's, to this is ridiculous!

@daf024, tried exactly the same procedure a hundred times, to the point that i'm getting fed up with it now. I dont have the OS version you mention, the latest one is 4.5.3 that i have, but the way things are it probably won't make an ounce of difference! eBay is looming on this one i'm afraid.

I had simmilar bad experience with OS5, didnt actually get as far as you got, i got a bsod just before it puts the virus into update mode. It then wouldn't recognize I had the virus plugged in when trying to install the previous working version again.

Uninstal as usual. Go via device manager uninstall everything related to the virus from there.

Also another important step which I have found does fix things is the holding down arp edit button whilst plugging in power to virus and keeping it held for 10 seconds.

Another thing to consider is that when the virus installs, it essentially installs itself as an audio card aswell, and with all this installing and uninstalling of audio cards this can juggle things round and perhaps cubase is now picking up the wrong driver? It's worth double checking your selected driver in cubase and ensure its the correct asio one for you audio interface with correct buffer settings etc...

I think it would be unwise to sell it just because of this wee glitch, im sure a solution will reveal itself one way or another soon enough Smile

Yeah, why sell it for a temporary software problem?

@maclean, lol! Yes, i was thinking aloud on that one, and thats a good point, i'll check in Cubase 6 for that.

I've actually done everything, including starting the unit up with the arp button held in for 10 seconds, etc, but thats a good point about the driver!

Each and every Windows 7 PC set up is different, and i think the only way it's gonna get sorted is when they bring the proper release out of this OS5, as i believe this is a Beta version.

Annoying, as i've never installed a Beta version from Virus, i've always stayed away from them! Mad

i was that fortunate to roll back to OS4.5 without a problem. but what you are saying guys really worrying and can feel your pain. last resort i could imagine is restore windows to the point befor os5 installation when it worked fine. of course it depends if you have that option turned on.

It will get sorted eventually, and the irony is that I'm cracking on with a superb uplifting trance intro at the minute, thanks to Sylenth 1, blistering sounds!!!! Who needs the Virus! Lol!
