Pannable-EQ

I've conceived an effect plugin. In its simplest form one can adjust an EQ 'peak' or 'bell' and shift that peak across the stereo spectrum.

- want to boost some treble at 20% left? use this
- want to reduce the body of the instrument at 50% right? use this

It's unbelievably simple, so simple, I'm surprised it hasn't been explored before.. in fact.. if it has please let me know!

Is it worth my time exploring the release-ability of this device or is it solely for my home use?

Unfortunately I'm not able to provide any audio demos - my computer was stolen last week and I haven't had the chance to replace it.

I should add that I have designed this plugin in Bidule, and given it's simplicity I can't imagine coding it (without a gui, initially) would be too difficult.

Thoughts?

The eq in ableton live can adjust L R independently and M S too. Toneboosters has one that can too I think, it is not an uncommon feature. Maybe your idea is a little bit different?

The pan control has come of age. Now you can adjust the stereo balance where you want to. Gone are the days when making an improvement in one area causes problems with another - choose the frequencies you want to fix and move them, leaving the rest of the stereo image intact.

If I list the apparent differences between the above-mentioned products and my tool I'll have a better overview:

FL EQUO: Seems to be bunch of bandpass filters which can be linked and panned, I see it as a kind of 3-d graphic equalizer

M4 GIQ: A 4-band adjustable stereo panner whose focus appears to be on the stereo-isation of a signal

Ableton EQ: that only does, as far as I remember (can't test) boosting and cutting of the centre or side channels?

Nugen Stereoplacer: without the ability to test, and no audio demos I can only guess what it does from the blurb. It claims to be able to move your frequency information around the stereo spectrum - that's quite a claim! Having said that, it does appear to do the simple frequency selection and boosting I thought I had patented, which is initially disappointing.

@Fernando - I can't find a suitable plugin to compare against from the ToneBoosters selection

The plugin closest to my idea is the FL EQUO; a single band of it. A threshold parameter wouldn't be too difficult to add, so that immediately supercedes it.

I doubt, unfortunately, I'll have anything to submit to the DC12 - I never considered myself a developer at any rate.. I'm a musician!.. with a bit of high-level programming experience..

I have no music computer at the moment anyway, so I guess I'm just getting a feel for what other projects I can add to the constantly growing list I'll have when I am finally computer-laiden. This does, at the moment, appear to be quite a fun one.
