I like Vinylto. I need to listen with phones on, but your voice and the whole mix really come through on that one.

...that said i wonder if just a hint of auto tune in just a couple spots wouldnt be nice, like the country albums do it, not like t-pain.

I like the first mix (VINYLJR) more. I think it fits the song better; it's more rough, less refined.
The second one is cute and all, but that's just not the spirit. Horns are samples obviously, the fact is I just didn't give a damn in mix 1, but couldn't help but focus on it on mix 2. Though I think you could dirty and simplify them a little in mix 1, just for the sake of it so that they blend more. The low end horns work wonder, the higher ones sound a little synthy sometimes, but nothing a few notes less couldn't fix.
Obligatory 2 cents etc. Plus I'm drunk.
Like the song.

indeed, well ive been tellin them they need to find someone that matches their vibe, cause i sure dont want to.
how would you feel about the horns just completely out altogether, cause thats my current suggestion, rather than this halfways and sometimes totally buried thing.

I don't feel the horns are obligatory from an arrangement standpoint, if that answers your question.
They would be better with just one real trombone IMHO if they can't get a real section - and nothing would work just as well.
I for one think that it's the only non-real instrument that jumps at you when you listen.
Apart from that, given what is on your sound cloud, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do it.
Give yourself some credit! And don't hesitate to work outside your comfort zone.
That can so much make you progress in what you like best too!

i simply dont want to sound like vinyljr and i agree they should just get one or more horn players to redo it, heck id even give them the charts.
its not like there arent a lotta horn players in this town. they dont have to be married to me theres gotta be plenty others that can do this.
im curious, what sample library do you think would sound like this?

the brass in jr is very dull and muffled. but the whole mix is quite a bit worse IMO.
"how would you feel about the horns just completely out altogether, cause thats my current suggestion"
I say you're right.
I don't think it adds anything to this style of arrangement. It sounds like Tijuana Brass dubbed over some alt rock. As per the original question, neither sounds 'right' to me at all.
