I've been working on a track in Ableton and recording the progress with screen capture software. I started this because of a group that came up on facebook which encourages this type of madness.

Sorry for anyone who has already seen the videos, but this post is not about the videos themselves. Right now, I'm looking some feedback on the track itself. Here's the track:

and

I really would like some brutal kick-in-the-balls style feedback but please read before you post.

-This is an unfinished track.
-It has not been mixed down
-The arrangement is not complete
-Whole sections need cleaning up

Just bare in mind that the entire track has been written in 6 45 minute instalments and it's very rough at the moment. What I want to hear is what bits sound good, what bits need to be removed, or if some bits are just so messy that they ruin the overall track. Lastly, is this heading in the direction of being a good track? Or, is it just really boring?

I just listened to this twice. If that is the result of 4.5 hours of work, just keep going. My only possible comment would be regarding the drums in teh latter part of the "dubstep" section, (I would prefer a slightly "heavier" sound) but you haven't completed the arrangement or mixed this yet, and that is only a personal preference anyway.

Good work Thumbs Up!

Thanks seismic. I'll keep that in mind. By the "dubstep" section, you mean the part where the heavy bass has kicked in and the higher melody is playing along with it, and its all ducking the kick?

BTW: What do people think about the ducking throughout the track. To me, it creates and interesting effect but perhaps its overdone? Underdone?

Yes, that section from 2:25-3:35 but particularly from 2:43-3:35.

The ducking effect is interesting.

For anyone interested, I did a mixdown on this track today and I think it's sounding a lot better.

You can hear the mixed down version on Sound Could and the video of the mixdown process is currently being uploaded to YouTube. Should be up tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback. I took it all on board.
