hello.

is there a way to change a vst preset in the play view?

i've made a new graphic interface for the highlife sampler in mux(since the original is terrible and it doesnt support midi learn) but everytime i want to change a preset (highlife has 128 fxp preset slots) i have to open highlife's native gui to press the preset switch buttons. i'm aware i can save mux presets, but that way i would have to convert\save hundreds of presets from highlife fxp to mux format. even if mux imported all the fxp in some automatic process, i still prefer to have the presets in fxp so that i can use them in other software.

Mulab reads/writes fxp files. Check out the menu when you have the VST opened

He means the user created interface possible with MUX.

There's the 'play editor' and the 'deep editor'.

MUX allows midi vst plugins so find yourself one that sends a program change and put it in your play editor.

thanks a lot, digit. that will fit my needs for highlife but will not work with lots of plugs that dont support program change.

OK, first off, the "obvious": if a VST provides no way to automate switching of patch within its bank of patches, MuLab cannot do anything at all about that.

What I don't remember is whether VST protocol allows the host to grab the current patch list and choose from it... I think it must. I guess it should be possible to put such a chooser on the play editor and link it to a VST... but I've no idea how it would fit with the current MuX routings - it might need a new lead and pin colour... no idea at all how Jo would feel about it, either! :)

I can see that something like that for a MuX patch that bound together one or more VSTs would be very nice to have, though, making it feel very integrated.

(There's a few other play editor changes on the wishlist, AFAIK, already, though.)

Even if it is a bit of work, but I use to save the VST presets that I like as MUX presets in categorized folders... Honestely that the biggest use of MUX for me, to use it as a big sound/preset library...I love to have everything sorted out under one hood...

Of course it takes time, but afterwards you got your personal libray, in which you can of course mix the presets of different VST's...

I don't care if preset x or y comes from this or that VST if it fits my liking and the category and with the new browser it's a charm to work with, especially with the excellent preset preview, but therefore it's best to have them as mux presets...

If MiniHost can do this, why not MuLab? Is their any reason?

I've searched the Docs for 'Play Editor' and nothing came up! What is it? Are you referring to the Front Panel?

you are not getting my point. i don't want to change presets through program change. i want to browse them through the gui in the play view. program change is just a workaround for this issue.

You didn't read what I said in the second part of my message after dismissing this obvious point which I had assumed you'd understood anyway.

no i didnt :)

i guess what you say in the second part can be done. every vst host does it as long as the plug supports fxb banks.

A minified version of the patch selector on the play panel, attached to its plugin, would probably do nicely:
