thick kick drum

Hello,

I have been playing with the eks-pro plugin and a variety of reverb/compression/limiting techniques in ableton to attempt to get a kick similar to that heard in the track below but without any luck, does anybody have any tips for getting a sound similar to the kick on this track?




also interested in the kick on this track




Would love to hear any tips for getting close to either. Also, let me know if you think of a better kick drum synth than eks, I like EKS because it's simple and straight forward but am open to suggestions of anybody has a kick synth they think would get the job done better

I think it is just 808 kick.. try searching for sample of 808 but long time ago, when I don't use samples I got utonic.. very pretty interface.. u can have take a look on that interface here on kvr searcher anyway don't want to confuse you don't know your plugin and iam using mine huge maschine library....))

everyone always tells me to layer kicks, which i have tried but its not easy, got to be the right 2 kicks, one for low end one for the click top end,
this sounds like an analogue kick to me

I would have to say, look into parallel compression to make your kick stand out more and layering is very important. I'm sure there are some samples that sound close to those kicks.

Just gonna say, it can be deceptive comparing your kick to one in a finished, mixed, and mastered track. The way it fits into the track can actually make you perceive it to be more impressive than it would be just hearing it on it's own.


Also keep in mind that just sitting and tweaking a kick for a long time is going to make you numb to what you're hearing pretty quickly.

IMO best to concentrate on making the track. Just have a placeholder kick, after you make a good track you might find that the kick sounds more impressive in this context.
