Is it just me or is Cyclop a HUGE CPU eater?

For some reason, at least on my MacBook pro, with Cyclop being the only thing running in Ableton, it runs around 32-35% of my CPU and boy does it stutter!!

I'd love to give it a better "run for its money", but none of the presets playback the way they should!

If anyone's got some tips, I'm all ears!

Quickly checking the Music Radar review, it doesn't list high CPU usage among the negatives:

no, i am seeing the exact same thing (on a macbook pro). my only solution, when this happens:

close out everything. turn off wifi. reboot. open ONLY logic (my daw of choice), and go back to work.
i DO find that, stopping playback, and opening the BROWSER in cyclop helps. but the GUI does eventually start a fight, and cyclop stutters, and it's a mess... (still, i use cyclop regularly).

Must be a Mac thing... runs smoothly over here (Win7, i7, Ableton 9).

A bug report to the friendly and responsive guys at Sugar Bytes would probably be a good idea.

Just an fyi: Using Cyclop in Studio One, Win7, 64 bit = no cpu problems at all.

Since i got Cyclop in a contest, i can't make music, i'm passing all day playing that damn built-in robot videogame, lol...

Average CPU here to be a monophonic synth, no more no less, but still works nicely and can do unique moving synthesized tricks.

Thankfully I'm not the only one!

I find it odd that every other VSTi I have works perfectly except for Cyclop.

I suspect its not a Mac issue - rather, a laptop issue. Typically, laptops come with 5400 rpm hard drives and its more than likely you are experiencing a problem streaming the instrument samples from the slower hard drive. Whereas, most desktops (Macs + PC's) use a 7200 rpm (or higher) hard drive speed.

I have both a MacBook Pro as well as a 27" iMac and it is widely known that VST's have hiccups on the laptop due to the slower hard drive speed and trying to stream the samples. Perhaps look into that?

With that said, you didn't list any of your MacBook specs so it could be a number of things.

for me, it's a 13" macbook pro, with a 2.4g i5, 8 gigs of ram...and an SSD. so the HD is not a bottleneck.

cyclop is my ONLY plugin that occasionally stutters, causing everything in logic to slow down...it's like bad acid...

It's not my hard drive. I swapped out the default 120Gb 5400rpm drive for a 320Gb 7200rpm last year.

It's DEF Cyclop that's the issue.

Like I said, everything is perfectly fine EXCEPT Cyclop.

Hope you get it sorted out as it's a pretty amazing and unique sounding synth (I just bought it a few days ago). Just for the record, on my 3+ year old i7, Windows 7 computer running Reaper, Cyclop never even gets up to 5%. Most of the time it's around 2%.
