I think those Powercore plugs must have blown some heads back in the day, even though discontinued still are impressive.

Reaktor was called Generator back then, iirc.

Rebirth RB-338 was stand alone. There was also something called Rubber Duck before that. Was great fun

In the beginning there was Synth 1.

Then, some other stuff.

There is still Synth 1. It just grew and changed colour.

Never really got my head around the stuff back then though. As you said, after that came Rebirth, which was loads of fun too. I still use it for the 808 and 909 part now, and the 303 occasionally.

never owned it. it was by delusion. both delusion plugs are free now and have been for many years.

I remember Synth1, Muon Tau, Junglist, then Albino being the first I used. Later on, Pro-53. Then I got Reason, then dropped out for a while to focus on guitar. When I got Live 8 and got back into things, I went nucking futs and now I have a ton, developers partially listed in my sig.

Synth 1 was a newcomer compared to Pro 5 and Model E. Muon Tau was also older than Synth 1, and Muon also released some earlier VSti's like Atom although that didn't even have a gui

last time i tried them was when they were released for free they sounded pretty good. also there was hammerhead. but i was just exploring music at that time vst didn't exist, and i didn't know about fl studio. so i bought my first music software from good old circuit city, which was techno ejay and then dance ejay. but i remember how popular hammerhead was at that time.

dont forget refx beast. that synth was awesome. but ya know, it was just too out there. cant say i actually used it very much. also ppd tritium was a hot ticket item and it was free!

For me, it was the electromechanical emulations from soundfonts.it - which is now GSi.

In the 80's I fell in love playing with a suitcase Rhodes as well as a Wurlitzer model 200.

In the mid 1990's I started doing computer based home recording and was using soundfonts with a Creative SB Live Platinum card.

Got a copy of CMuzys around 2003/2004 time frame from Computer Music magazine and I think I found out about Mr. Rays and Organized Trio (both from soundfonts.it which is now GSi) here on the forums.

As soon as I was able to 'dig in' on those plugins using CMuzys, and hear decent emulations of the old school, I was hooked. They are still great plugins. Crystal, Triangle II, Minimogue VA soon followed for me. I still use all of them.

the ones i considered as a must were albino1, rm4, waldorf ppg (for nostalgic reasons and some uses) and later hypersonic2 with the us1 module. i was extremely dissapointed by model d, as i mostly was with all steinberg products, with some exeptions.
