Is Kontakt capable of some granular sampling, as does Granite or Padshop Pro ?

Beeing relatively new to granular sampling, i'm wondering how much Kontakt would be capable on the field of granular with the appropriate scripts, as does for instance Granite, Padshop Pro or Travelizer from reaktor, and what would be it limitations

By comparison, i remember a thread here at kvr showing Kontakt's possibilities as physical modeled synthesizer

So i assume it should be capable of some granular sampling performance, the technique beeing closer that PM to the primary strength of Kontakt (as sampler and sample player)

I'd dispute that granular is closer to physical modelling than sample playback. There are better definitions but WikiP suffices:

Granular synthesis is a basic sound synthesis method that operates on the microsound time scale.

It is based on the same principle as sampling. However, the samples are not played back conventionally, but are instead split into small pieces of around 1 to 50 ms. Im not really sure what level of PM Kontakt is actually capable of, given that I dont believe kontakt scripting has very much control over the audio engine itself, i'll have a dig for that thread because Im curious. There's probably some way of doing some sort of waveguide-y stuff with delays/filters, but not full-on PM.
But Kontactscript certainly isnt running at full audio rate, which is what I'd want for it to be able to do proper synthesis. Again, it might be something that can be fudged in an approximated way, but not the real deal.

Granular is Reaktor's forte anyway. I'd suspect NI dont see any point in doubling that up.

Of course I could be completely wrong, but personally I think there are enough good dedciated granular synths/processotrs out there that it'd be a lot of potentially wasted effort to get something like it out of Kontakt. Reaktor is obviously one, but Granite is another I'd suggest.

Kontakt does, last time I checked, have a rudimentary granular / timestretch playback mode but it isn't flexible at all and you'll exhaust the sonic possibilities very quickly.

Absynth has slightly better granular features, and Reaktor knocks them both out of the ballpark in this regard.

You can also do some granular synthesis using scripting - here is "Grainy", an example from www.sampleism.com (soundcloud demo is here: http://snd.sc/18BXByQ)

Admittedly this is cumbersome as well and fairly limited, so I'm not suggesting Kontakt as your go-to granular machine, just pointing out another avenue of granular synthesis in Kontakt

I just thought I'd chime in here. I can confirm that Kontakt IS capable of granulation, because a few months I built a granular synth for Kontakt.

Granulation is essentially sample playback, but using very small pieces of audio, and at very high speed. There's no PM involved.
