Apologies...
I got a mail about 1 hour later after I made the last post with the info that there is an update available. It turned out that I installed the very first official with engine .7000 rather than the new-snagged version with engine .7045. The updater installs engine .7049.
Either way, I can confirm that the Windows (XB360) guitars work out of the box with my chinese wireless receiver. The learn function within the setup tab however is still just for dropping further data for the developers (who are very responsive on this!).
I hope I could be of any help so far.
Happy playing.

Let's give this one a gentle bump since the question "how good is it" popped up a couple of times recently.

I had the prev versions, but now i have v3 of Realguitar!
After a quick investigation, it turned out that v3 means new gui + new brain and all other features remained the same.
For use in electronic music, Realguitar is enough guitar-like, and i think it won't disappoint me (neither did v2) !
nICE gUI!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I just got to say RealStrat and a guitar hero guitar is totally amazing! I have used RealStrat for a while but never managed to really get that 'human' feel to it but with the guitar and especially the strum bar you can make it sound very convincing! I picked up the guitar (world tour) PC game from amazon for £27 as well which is pretty cheap. Totally love the tilt as well where if you raise the guitar right up it starts feeding back - I am like a little kid here

great stuff! thanks.
Compyfox wrote:As mentioned before - you press 5 colored buttons with your left hand (or right hand if you're left-handed) which correspond to setup chords in the "color tab" mode, or strings in the Smart String/Chord mode.macmuse wrote: I was reading about the GH and the strum bar isn't strummed like you would strum (like on a real guitar) but instead you press this bar down?? How is that? Does this make a more realistic strum than just playing chords on the keyboard with key switches or using patterns?
The "strumming" button is basically for up and down strumming. The problem however, is that this is a button without velocity (so it's either on or off). To compensate, you tilt the guitar. In the engine, there is a randomize mode implemented for strumming, which adds randomly +/-20 in terms of velocity depending how far your guitar is tilt.
The official videos sum this up, even though if only hinted at it.
Depends. If you're a keyboard wizard, you can pull something like that off as well. Especially if you know which MIDI notes correspond to the GH guitar in Joystick mode (as written on page 1).macmuse wrote: Is it actually easier than the keyboard route?
There is a chord matrix available that you can set up, or use a pre-setup one (like Universal Basic or Universal Advanced) to trigger what you need.macmuse wrote: How do you tell it what chords you are playing (like you would if you played a chord on a keyboard)?
Again, depends on your skill level. But I'd say, it's simpler to pull something off that has a more realistic feel on the toy guitar than on keyboard.macmuse wrote: And lastly, do you think the results using the GH controller are more authentic than via the keyboard?
The patterns from the Pattern Mode in MIDI (Solo, Chords, etc) don't work with the Joystick mode. And they are a bit outdated. But for arp stuff it's still great.macmuse wrote:How about using the patterns?
You wouldn't need to in the first place (at least the pure strumming modes). However I added some feature requests where you can change the stumming "pattern" in Joystick mode like with the Picking Pattern (these are highly customizable!!!).macmuse wrote:And can you still use strumming patterns with this controller, or wouldn't you need to?
I still think such a mode can add more to realism if you only strum half of the chords on upstrum in "Chord Strum" mode (colored button) than what you have available currently. Or if you have a custom pattern setup that the upstrum alternately switches between half-chords and muted or smack sound.
There is still the "YouRock Guitar", which has strings but buttons as frets. Though I don't know that performs with the RG3 engine's Joystick mode. (don't have one, so I can't give any feedback)macmuse wrote:If it actually had strings, I might think it was for guitarists who may not be familiar with keyboards, but since it doesn't, that's why I wondered if the result is different.
Even without strings and more fret buttons, it's a powerful tool that was massively dumbed down for users to create outstanding results in the process. You saw the two demo videos, there is definitely room for more.

Hi Compyfox,
I am thinking to buy a PS3 controller (PS3 GH 5). Will it work directly with PC through a USB cable? Do I have to buy other hardware or software to make it work? I hope it will work directly with RealGuitar 3 on my PC.
Thanks!

I'm still wondering what settings Keytar Jeff is using to play the RealLPC.
I know he uses the ribbon for +12 pitch bend.
But I'm not sure what effect he uses on the high velocity or the pitch bender?
There are so many settings to tweak and I can't choose wich one is best for playing

I'm in somewhat regular contact with Harvey Starr. Of starr labs. As a personal preference I've always preferred ztar "key triggers" or a tca as opposed to "string triggers" by virtue of the fact that they can be rigged to do more then one thing at a time ....and if you are a finger picker who preferrs to play with the flesh of your fingers/thumb it responds better then string triggers found on button style midi guitars (ztars, yourock, ez-eg etc)
Recently I postulated that the key triggers could be enhanced if they also served as touchstrips. one of the benefits for those who want more realistic guitar performance such as pick location one could simply assign cc values to the point of contact on the key triggers. Imagine 6 cc faders that react to location where you already put your hand for strumming/picking.
Ztar key triggers are similar but not the same as strum bars.
