Is the multiband compressor essential to the sound or just a matter of preference?

i would do both to be honest, lower it, and tighten up the decay a bit as well. How hard is it compressed? im sure axwell has his kicks compressed a ton to give them that energy
Well, to be honest, I just used parallel compression on the kick to really give it a lot more power in the mid/high punch area. I applied really hard compression to the copy of the kick and EQ'ed some frequencies that i thought were missing in the kick and then mixed it in with the original.

I think I finally got it. I added some EQ'ing and made my own middle punch elements in sylenth1 and stacked them with the original kick. Let me know your thought! :D

How did you get that bass? What synth did you use? Sounds great?

Post

I just used Sylenth1, saw/square wave and messed with detuning/drive/adsr envelopes

and then ofcourse, parallel compression and bitcrushing.

Wow that's really dope dude! Would it be possible for you to upload the preset somewhere?

Post

you talking about the bass? or the middle part of the kick?

Post

Well mostly the bass but the kick is also really neat!

Post

The bass is a simple saw wave with lowpass filter in sylenth 1. i just messed around with glide, pitch and resonance lfo's, and filter cutoff envelope.

edit: and the saw wave was 8 voices with slight detuning to give it a rolly feel.

Post

Sounds like there are pitch slides on some notes and the cutoff is also modulatet by the KeyNote. The higher notes have more treble than the lower ones its a pretty common technique on pluck sounds
