Nick from Sonicstate takes a decent look at the forthcoming Novation Bass station 2 alongside one of the developers.
You can see him itching to get his hands on it...
Look on youtube for "novation bass station 2 world exclusive" or on the sonicstate site under vids..
It sounds pretty good as they move through it. The pre-release clip is 22 minutes long
I can't post the correct link from my iPad...sorry
:-)

Yeah, it's looks great!! I'm defintely going to pick it up when it's released. :)

Hope it's okay for me to post this here. I did a quick overview of it in case anyone here is interested (on my blog). I've also linked it to the Sonic State hands on demo too.

This or Minibrute?...

Or Mopho,
Or Pulse II,
Or Minitaur,
Or DEII,
Or Slim phatty,
Or Boomstar
Or Mono lancet
Or MS-20...

The market is more over-saturated than metallica's newest album. Which is the best?

Does Pulse II actually exist yet?

I have the little phatty and the korg ms-20 legacy controller with the software.
The shop display minibrute had a broken key so that put me off it a bit.
I also like novation keybeds..I'll wait for the release and see how I feel.
I'm a bit torn cos of the cv out on the minibrute which the novation doesn't have.

I don't know. Shouldn't it have existed years ago already? :D

Anyway, it's going to be though deciding between the Bass station and Minibrute (I think those two are most directly in the competition - same price and keys). I think I slightly prefer the sound of the Brute personally, but the features + that slick sounding overdrive circuit.... DAMN!

In that long demo video review with the developer that was posted, do I recall correctly that they mostly used the acid filter? I usually don't care for that sound personally, too precise/thin/clean sounding for me.

I do see Oden's point tho'. There's a lot of new analog gear coming out...

A while ago I bought myself a Vermona to go along with the TI. But while, I love my Vermona I'd love a mono with more modulation capabilities.

So far, my two faves are the Novaiton and the Korg mini. The minibrute is nice too it's got to be said, and so are the Boomstars.

But the BS II is tipping the scales for me at the moment. Because it has quite a bit routing more for modulation, Sub Ocilator and it's got a USB connection. Plus, its one of the cheapest.

But there are lots of choices at the mo'! :)

the bass station stores 128 presets, IMO that puts it a big leg up over the competition in it's price range.

First off I want to say that I really want to like the BS 2. As far as preset storage, I see that feature more enticing to Live work or in some cases people that like to DL other's presets. I own the MiniBrute and I am finding it easy to come up with a desirable usable sound for what I am doing in the Studio rather quickly. If I got something I really like I take a quick picture and or have blank template sheets that only take less than a minute to mark out the settings.
There are some comparison's on paper + or - for both of these synth's so that is factored in but Also sound is the most compelling argument.
The initial demo's of the MB were awful and it took quite awhile for some good ones to pop up. I can get that gritty edgy sound of course, but I can also find some sweet spots for kinder more vintage timbres. So I think the strength
of the MB besides the great layout interface is it has a unique sound that does cover more sonic ground than what one might suspect.
So far what I have heard from vids on the BS 2 is that it does sound pretty good but kind of vanilla and nothing to get overly excited about. Could this be the same case as per MiniBrute early demos? We shall see shortly after it is available and more demos are put up or one has the chance to play it and decide.
I have posted threads about wanting one more Analog mono and there are a lot of choices, but I have a ceiling as far as price goes and fortunately there are worthy contenders that are in that range.
One cool feature that Nick showed in that vid was how you can create your own patterns by playing the notes yourself and then edit them. I have a similar
ability that I use playing the Akai Miniak. So much cooler than preset arps imo. One concern was I read somewhere on another thread that the BS 2's LFO's don't sync up to midi clock. I would like to verify that as that could be a dealbreaker for me. The MB has the CV stuff going on and I have never before
used synths that had them. That may not be very important to some but I am finding that it is a cool addition and one to ponder amongst competitors as I reach my final purchase decision.
