Tuning a sample and tuning a real drum are very different things.

If only I had a Shure sm 57 here,I would tune my snare up here and sample it.

So...is there a way to EQ my drums so they have a higher pitched crack like Copeland's kit did?

EDIT: I'm not sure how I'd replicate the sound as heard in the above audio example.

Best Way to get that sound would be to loop a Police track and listen to his snare and A/B your snare.

For comparing the drums, yes, but I can say that I'm still a novice at EQing. It might take weeks for me to get a proper sound. Hmm...Are any of those frequency charts useful for my purposes?

There is a very Police-like snare sample from drumwerks called "Pearl Steve Ferrone Snare" that's only a 5-buck download. This is a collection of samples, not a Kontakt instrument, but if you have full Kontakt it's easy to map them into an nki.

No offense intended (I know you're a very helpful member of KVR), but I'm a drummer and own a (physical) Pearl Steve Ferrone snare as well as a 5" Tama snare that I think is the same model Stewart played back in the 80s, and the Ferrone model couldn't be father than the Stewart Copeland's sound. The Ferrone snare is 6.5" snare. It's a beautiful drum, but you use a 6.5" for a deeper, fuller sound and that's what you hear in both samples for this drum at the linked site; Copeland's snare sound is that of a small, 5" snare, that is very tightly tuned for a high pitch -- tuning a deeper drum won't approximate that sound very well (of course, it also depends on how discriminating your ears are; so if the sound of this snare makes someone happy, that's great, but if the original poster is set on approximating that Copeland 70s/80s snare sound, he needs to start with a 5", I believe, steel snare). Even more, Stewart tuned that 5" snare really tight which only accentuates the qualities of a smaller snare.

With all this demand for specific 80s drum sounds, I'm surprised that a high-quality sort of Collins/Copeland sample instrument hasn't been made in the vein of Abbey Road or other companies.

@synchronizer eSoundz/Sonic Reality has a drum sample library for KONTAKT that comes pretty close to the Phil Collins sound (not the heavily gated sound, but pretty close to his sound otherwise). It was by an played an incredibly good drummer who knows a lot about Phil Collins sound, Nick D'Virgilio AKA NDV. Nick played with Genesis during the period where Phil Collins left the band.
