Funky synth vibrato sound

Hi, I'm trying to get a modulator controlled vibrato like the one on the example below at the following times:

0:48 - 1:05

2:20 - 2:40

I'm using synth VSTs (arturia moog, synth1 and legacy series) I've tried routing an LFO to pitch modulation, but it doesn't seem to achieve what I want.

Any advice?

Just to make sure you're setting the right foundation, this is two chords playing (Dun - dun) with an LFO (not sync'd, set it to free) and mod wheel mapped to the amount (sometimes called gain) of that same LFO. It's only controlling about 15% of total pitch.
