Hi, thanks for the plugin: it brings me memories :)
I had a D4 long time ago but exchanged it for the following model DM5, that still I own.
I had sampled some sounds from D4 (a borrowed one, later) that weren't anymore on DM5, but didn't have the patience to do them multi velocity samples.
But actually I did it with a few DM5 Snare sounds for use them in Battery.

The way you did the plugin is ok for me (the different note for different groups of sound seems better to me): I can just use those sounds I need,
and loading all the instances inside a VEPRO instance make it easily playable with one midi channel only and less audio channels inside Cubase.
The different note for different groups of sound seems better to me.

A Kontakt version however would be fine.
I'm using the Forgotten Keys drum machines infact.

Uh, I can confirm that D4 (as DM5) has a pitch tuning for every sound...
and the note playing muting for sounds assigned to the same group (like closed hihat and open hihat, or same cymbal hits), but I doubt you can implement the latter in your plugin...
but in Kontakt is doable.

Thanks for the approving words. :)

I'm pretty certain that a pitch control will follow (not up to me tho), and as (I think) I stated earlier, there will be a Kontakt version at some point, but I'm currently busying myself with some other time-consuming stuff that has to come first.

Kontakt is still 3/4 of a giant question mark for me, so I'll have to do some experimenting first before I can create something release-worthy. But it will be there, e-ven-shu-a-lee. :)

For the Kontakt instrument, is it going to be one group for each drum sound and then on the instrument panel there's six or so modules that you can select the drum sounds from?

Also will it have velocity scaling or will it only be the three velocity samples?

I tried to create an alternative way of preserving noise level by denoising some D4 samples and then having your recording of D4 noise constantly playing but as it turns out I couldn't get a satisfying result out of the denoiser. Maybe you or someone else will have enough skill or sheer luck to have a decent outcome with that.

You also know about Kontakt's Automap feature, right? Mapping hundreds of groups by hand is a chore--scripting the front panel would be difficult enough.

As I wrote 2 posts up - Kontakt is still 3/4 of a giant question mark for me.
So I won't make any promises or announcements as to what *I* will be doing with it.

I don't make any money off this, so please don't be insulted that I point it out, but you'll just have to put up with what comes out - or not. :shrug:

What I can promise is that I really want to do this, and do it in a satisfying way, so chances are good that a useable Kontakt instrument will come out of it in the end. Again, no further promises.

Nah, thanks, I'm fine.
I just used OSX's built-in Automator.
Took a while to figure out, but worked a treat. :)

By using batch renaming tools, the time you're not arrow-keying through directories and ENTER-CMD/V-number-ENTER-ing all the files is spent on figuring out algorithms, like which part of the name to exchange for what when and and in what range and so on... :roll:

Man, just tried it and made my rack and saved as a project. This is an excellent freebie! Should be nominated for the freebie-of-the-year awards haha

Seriously, this rocks. I will be back when i finish my first tune with it :)

edit: now that i actually imported a midi track with lots of notes i realized each instance is taking 4%cpu. Considering i mapped the entire GM1 kit, i have 23 instances and it goes for 93% haha
i see other people are commenting on the cpu usage. Chokehold says each instance uses less than 1% on his pc, and some people said each instance uses 7%. Well, i don't know if it's any worth, but maybe we should give some feedback in that sense. If anyday he find time/motivation to investigate this, he may find it useful. Here is the info for me

Windows 7
Dual core 2,2ghz
4Gb Ram

It's interesting to read of so many different experiences.
I seriously can't tell you why some (!) of you are having such performance problems.

I create, test and use these plugins on a simple 2011 Mac Mini with a Dualcore 2.5GHz i5 in it, so not a very top-end machine.
No i7 powerhouse, no AMD rubbish radiator, just a decent simple Dualcore.

I've included a screenshot of the Reaper project for the SoundCloud demo track, as you can clearly see A) I've used many many instances, B) it's no idling shot but Reaper is actually playing ... and most importantly C) there is NO instance of the plugin taking up more than 1% of my rather moderate CPU power, most are around 0.7%.

So I really have no clue what's going on at your end, or why so many of you are having performance issues (plugin wise ^^), but it's not a problem with the plugin itself. At least not as far as I can tell. :shrug:

Just to add, the performance dialog says I used 51 effects in this project, make that 51 minus a Limiter, an EQ and 3 SPL Attackers. So I used 46 instances of Alexis and that caused a ~28% CPU hit INCLUDING the other processors...

Hi Chokehold. I'm willing to investigate what might help us, since this a really worth freebie. Maybe there's a particular configuration on people's computer that can help. I was somewhat tired when posted last time. Actually i forgot some important info. I'm on a:

Windows 7 64-bits
Reaper 32-bits ***
Dual core 2,2ghz
4Gb Ram

***Yes, i know i can/should use Reaper64 with Win64, but i use a portable
install so i can work with the university computers (Win32).


So since we're both running reaper and you're only got 0,3GHz more cpu, i'm thinking that maybe this is an windows issue. Maybe some non-optimal configuration needs to be changed. I will try some stuff. Maybe somebody hearing this got an idea

Nah, this shouldn't be a Win/Mac issue, and also not related to 32/64 bits. It should perform quite well on any system.

I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but the plugin is set to DFD, that is Direct From Disk streaming mode, which means it pre-loads only a minimal part of the samples into RAM and when a sample is played back it starts off with the part that is in the RAM while it quickly loads the rest from HDD again.

My system has two internal SATA3 SSDs, and the plugin is on one of them.
So maybe that could be a reason for quicker access to the samples and a lower CPU load as a result?

Would be cool if someone could check if it makes any difference to the CPU load if the samples are on a HDD or SSD or external USB drive?

Because the hard work is being used in a very limiting, confusing, and arbitrary way. The samples themselves are great, it's just that the forced Maize sampler is a waste of time and effort that ultimately strips the samples of a great deal of usability (no envelopes, pitch shifting, can't modify the samples themselves, can't use in other samplers, can't add loop points, can't stretch). :|
