The bass drum appears to be getting filtered or possibly transposed somehow between :21 seconds and :26 seconds into the track just before it goes into the main kick drum. Can someone please tell me if the drum is filtered or transposed? I would like to learn how to use this technique myself, thanks.

Sounds filtered to me.
I would say a lowpass filter with a high cutoff frequency. Then bringing the cutoff frequency down.

Ok thanks, I will try that on a kick drum loop and see how it sounds.
