Say I have a nice warm and evolving Atmosperic pad based on a single piano note sample. I was wondering what kind of filter, vst, sound effect can bring out a harmonic shimmering effect that is in tune with the sample. So far I've used a delay filter and turned on the "color" option, but it is really hard to find the correct frequency to match the pitch, and even when I did find a close pitch, it just sounded dirty and distorted.

Any ideas?

Check out Vallhallashimmer, it does just what you describe, and at $50 isn't too pricey. There's a free demo version that fades in and out after a bit, but can give you an idea of what it does. VERY cool plug, here's a link:

Vahallashimmer is special, so I wouldn't discourage that, but in the meantime you might try boosting eq over the range of frequencies you want to accentuate in the delays. I have created a send effect before with another delay on it, equing out a lot of low and boosting the relevant frequencies and following it with heavy 'verb. Sometimes it works, lol.
