So I've been messing around with my shiny new copy of Sonar X2 and it kind of got me feeling old. I distinctly remember buying this awesome looking new program from CompUSA in the late 90s...I couldn't pass it up as I looked at the box on the shelf. It promised great music making capabilities. That program: Acid Music 1.0. LOL. I stuck with it through I think about version 3 or 4 and I did a hell of a lot with it..but I fondly remember those earlier versions. I remember uploading, and listening to, a bunch of stuff on Acid Planet consisting of people mixing up the same included loops that were in the program. Then the people that had money to buy the expansion loop sets would blow our minds.
But even through all that...people were able to get creative with chopping up the loops and doing stuff. I would work with that program for hours with its limited tools. Sometimes limiting yourself can lead you to stretch your boundaries. I think it's true that too many possibilities can possibly paralyze your creative mind. That said I'm not itching to look online for a copy of Acid 1 to start working with over my new stuff. I'm just thinking out loud.
It's fun and nostalgic to remember those early days of discovering the joy of manipulating all those sounds and the stuff we pulled out of a limited pallet of tools. We're spoiled now to the point of over stimulation I think. I don't mean to be one of these "used to walk a mile to school in the ice and snow" guys...but damn, we used to really get a lot of mileage out of very little back in the day.
Nostalgic for my first forays into computer music...

That's what I started with too. What a good intro into music for me. Also my version of Cubasis that came with my Tascam US428 audio interface and N.I.'s Dynamo. I could do so much with all that back then.

Old ACID user here too. When I bought my first PC in 1999 (with a whooping 40GB disc and a 733 mhz intel Pentium 3 processor - state of the art back then and it costed like a used car)
ACID came bundled with the PC and I was amazed what you can do. The whole concept of loops was new to me and it really pushed me into further music making. I rarely use loops today though.
I have a cd stashed away with those old tracks. Sound better than the stuff I do today
