Greetings,

I have a Yamaha DSR-2000 keyboard/synth. It's a pretty old synthesizer but still a great instrument. I've been noticing some issues with the instrument nowadays. When I turn on my Yamaha DSR-2000, I can see the LCD display working perfectly. The only thing is that when I press a key, there's no sound and the buttons don't light up. I tried buying a new AC Adaptor, but still the same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since the display did work, the power adapter was not the problem.
So probably it's a major malfunction in a central component. Too bad, but not uncommon for a 25 year old instrument. All good things come to an end

I saw one for sale for €50. Also check eBay. Having it only screwed open by a service technician costs more.

But since it's not salvageable anyway, you can screw it open and reseat all the ribbon connectors. Maybe that will do the trick.

Open the case.
Pull out and reset all cable connections inside the synth, one by one.
It can often be corrosion on the contacts in the multi connectors that kill your good old synth.
Or it can be leak from the memory battery that destroys the pcb.

And, try to replace the battery if it has an internal one.

Thanks for the advice. I've opened my synth and it was full of dust inside. I'm going to try to use a vacumm cleaner to remove it and see if it works.

More often then not that is the problem. Batteries last about ten years on those things.

After a bit of online research, there doesn't seem to be a battery in this one (other than a compartiment for 6 large cells to use it without a power adapter)

I'm going to check the board connections to see if that is the problem.
