This tip should be a sticky in all forums.

Embedded images in feature request and bug-report forum posts can be tremendously helpful when explaining or demonstrating something.

[1] First, screen-capture an image. On Microsoft Windows, I can capture an entire application window with Alt + PrtScr. You can also copy an existing image to clipboard memory by viewing it a paint program, selecting the entire image, and pressing Ctrl + C on your computer's keyboard.

[2] Browse to the Snipboard image hosting website here with Chrome or Firefox. There are a number of other web sites that offer an image hosting facility, but I like the ease of use provided by Snipboard.

[3] To "upload" your captured image to Snipboard's web server, just press Ctrl + V on your conputer's keyboard. Snipboard also lets you crop and markup the image (These powerful options are saved as an exercise for the reader to try out at his/her leisure).

[4] Select and copy the URL provided by Snipboard by either clicking the special copy icon, or by highlighting and copying the URL in the browser's address field.
Image

[5] Paste the URL into the forum post, highlight to select the whole URL, and then click the "Img" button above the text editing area.
Image

If done correctly, the mark-up in the text editing area for the embedded image URL will resemble the following:

Code: Select all

[img]http://snag.gy/BEv3D.jpg[/img]
[6] Click the "Preview" button at the bottom of the page to review your work and ensure that it looks the way you intended before submitting the final posting.

Thanks tonedef71.

Pour les francophones qui comprennent difficilement l'anglais informatique il y a aussi ImagiLive qui offre un service entièrement en français :
http://www.imagilive.com/fr/index.xml

I translate:

For french people who are not at ease with the english IT language there is also ImagiLive which provides a service totally in french:
http://www.imagilive.com/fr/index.xml

No need to create an account.
And when uploading an image it is possible to set an expiration date and even to set it to... "never"!

The service is totally bilingual (little flags at the bottom of the page).

Of course create a personal account (absolutely free) is more interesting because it allows to manage one's personal history of pictures.

Thank you so much for such a informative post.

I have had problems with snag.gy working in my 64-bit browser on Windows 10. When that happens, another site I will use is imgBB. ImgBB also provides the option for outputting BBcode markup that you can embed directly into phpBB-based forums like this one.

Oh. Didn't know snaggy changed to snipboard. Thanks. I need to get out more.

Right, snaggy snipboard seems very reliable. I have been using it for years and my images are still in the forum posts. It is worth registering.
