Un-link clips from automation lane?

Is there any way to disassociate clips from their track's automation lane?
For example, is there an option that disables the duplication of automation in an automation lane whenever I duplicate a clip that has automation underneath it? It's kind of a hassle having to remember to duplicate every clip that I want duplicated before I create automation for it. There are instances where I wasn't sure that I wanted the clip duplicated, but then decided to, and THEN have to go into the automation lane and delete nodes.

Disable the "Automation follows when clips are moved" icon in the transport display (automation symbol over a chain), that works for duplication too when I try it here.
