Device panel mappins need an indcation of what's been mapped already

I loved the idea of having the device panel mappings configurable per preset, but trying to make templates is proving challenging in real use. It's very hard to know what's been mapped already. Wouldn't it make sense to give some indication that a plug-in parameter has been mapped? Like when you drag over the colored dot, why doesn't it stay there in the destination where it sits for a split second? I know a parameter can be assigned to multiple pages, which is great, but maybe the dots could get added horizontally. They don't take up much room.
