the strong breakbeat and the guitar/banjo and rhodes(?) sounds funny when mixed together. Where do you want advice on? the production? the arrangement?

One thing to start with: try to A/B your mix with a CD you like best and try to make up the differences and compensate your mix to match.
The beat for instance, turn it up so it comes up to atleast the same level as the chords/synth.
Maybe because of the low bandwith, try [ http://www.iuma.com ] (IUMA.com), it's free and once you upload a 128kbps mp3 track it's available directly, drifing off here.... Wink
Where is the bass? I love those lows.
Also the solos are pretty cool, but you need to work on your timing, especialy the, what is it...the banjo?.

Arrangement sounds quite ok the first 1:05 minutes, a fair amount of changes happen in this time which is a good thing, keep that up! The solo after that however is a bit too long IMO. Bring up the beat sooner, say about 1:00 earlier. Then you nicely build the song to a climax, soloing along like you obvoiusly like best.

Try to concentrate on your timing and the arrangement, growing an ear for a good production in the mean time. Use this time to get familiar with mixing and sound engineering. And have fun like you did on this piece.

Thanks for your comments! Smile
I'm not good at creating punchy basses. Haven't been trying that for a long time though.
I did this song using Magix Music Maker 04 and i'd have to rewrite it since i don't use MuMa anymore Laughing i cannot edit it without "remixing" it. But i used my own samples exclusively, deleted that built-in MuMa-shit.

I think i'm going to rewrite it. I could sample the pads and the breakbeat as well as the shamisen (which is a banjo sound on my cheap keyboard).
Talking about the shamisen timing, perhaps i should arrange it according to the break's accents to underline the groove, instead of recording it live.
The solo's timing is also quite bad. On the one hand, my timing is indeed not very precise, on the other hand i just gave me one try to record the solo at ~170bpm.
I spent about five hours on this track so i can comprehend that you found several points that could be improved.

The beat sounds indeed a bit silent because of the bitrate. It sounds quite lo-fi and the high freqs are what makes the beat audible. Perhaps i should add even more air to it.

When i remix it, i'll concentrate on the mix and loudness of the different instruments as well as the timing. Perhaps i'll post the mixed version soon...

First suggestion would be to find an uploading site that allows 128 kbs uploads. It is virtually impossible to give good feedback on such a low fi track. Especially the EP in the break sounds quite terrible, where no doubt a better quality version would show a much smoother sound.

Try this link for a few options...

http://www.dorumalaia.com/links.htm

There was also a newer thread here which had more options but I can't find that one right now Confused

I think its a great relaxation song. A little delay on the solo (is that the rhodes?) to undry it. The beat being a bit low works fine for me .. dont know if Sinq listened to the first version that wasnt 128.

I like it at 0200-> when the solo is dry and the pads comes in with a reverb on it. Its a nice mixture. The rhodes distorts here witch sounds a bit nasty. Perhaps another overdrive will do it

And please! The crash in the end .. quit it man! Smile
I want to continue being in that sweet place after the song is over .. not in a CRASH Smile

And yes, the banjo shamizzistuff. Timing Smile

I like that twitch of the rhodes or whatever at 2.40 Smile Nicee

i love the solo. Everything else doesn't really do much, except for the background sounds... Like the breakbeat- mute it down or something, in the higher eq sounds... i personally found the plucking sound very annoying especially in the 1:20 area... Try taking that part out, and listen to it. The beginning was kind of mediocre - try making a cooler intro, something that makes more sense with time. You could tell you didn't really play the notes in proper time, and with the plucking instrument used, it was annoying to me. I was about to turn off the mp3 player until the solo section. It made me fall in love with this song and your skills. You rock. It felt like some kind of modernized doors song.

It is a simple sine wave sound on my keyboard with a slightly amplified attack. When i played in the solo in 02/04 i didn't yet know what a rhodes sounds like. Rolling Eyes

Yes, it was the old version where the beat sounded terribly lo-fi.

Ok. You're right. I'll replace it with a fadeout of the beat and a solo as an interlude to the next song.

Thanks. But it is just a pitch bend Smile

How can i make a cooler intro? I'm used to fade/get the instruments in after each other.

Sehr angenehm zu hörn der Track...fehlt vielleicht noch n basspart (vieleicht ins Intro ne kleine Bassimpro oder so) achso und am Ende dieser Crash ..bitte ändern Laughing

Danke Smile
I'm currently re-arranging the song in energyXT because i'm not using MuMa anymore.
I already removed those grooveless shamisen chords in the beginning and played in the melody more accurately with a rhodes. The crash at the end will definitely be cut away.
