I am looking for hosts, and after using Cubase I looked at a screenshot of Sonar and it just looks like the same thing. Can someone tell me some differences:

-Is there a pattern/playlist or is it just linear?

-Is it good for loop recording?

-If you assing an hardware controller, are the assignments saved with the song? And is the process of assigning ctrlers to vsti easy?

-Is there a view of all the midi/audio connexions where we can patch things? Can we re-order fx easily?

also, thanks for general comments coming fron thoses who have tried both...

I recently checked out the demo's for CubaseSX and Sonar - I was quite surprised by the fact that I took to one much easier than the other - I will not tell you which I ended up liking the most but what I would say is demo them both.

In my opinion as a current Logic pc user I would say that most of the 'BIG' sequencers do very similar things - but in different ways - by this I mean they look different, they aproach things in a different way, some might say they even have different sonic characteristics (different eq alogrithms, plugins, synths) - one things for sure they cost different!

The difference is YOU need to sit down with it and figure out for yourself if it A) meets your needs, B) you like the workflow. Me, or anyone else on this forum cannot answer this question, only yourself. Get the demos (Sx 1 and SX 2 are not THAT drastically different) and play. Either you like it or you hate it. Personally, I'm starting to become of the mind that it's all just tools, it's not a religion. Use what you like.

But just in the spirit of using collective knowelge witch abounds here, and could end up saving me learning another host... I have used cubase enough to know about it, but are those elements in Sonar?

Is there a playlist/sequence...

Is there a MIDI controller mapping (external midi to VST parameters etc) saved by song?

This would help me greatly, if it is in, I will spend the next 3 weeks or so in Sonar... thanks in advance for precisons..

oh, sorry bout that- but yes I agree- why limit yourself to one sequencer? Not to mention, what if you start collaborating with people who have different hosts? It would be handy to have them both. Plus it would be nice to not see anymore Orion vs. FL studio vs. Reason vs. Project 5 threads anymore..
