There are times when you need the crisp attack of a steel string acoustic guitar, but the distinctive sound of nylon strings is often the perfect choice for a mellower acoustic guitar tone. Evolution Modern Nylon's rich, full tone excels at classical guitar as well as pop/rock guitar tracks. By moving the pick position closer to the bridge and employing the guitar body percussion hits included, you can also achieve convincing flamenco guitar parts, too.

We developed this library in collaboration with Rosewood Recording Company, one of Utah's most venerable recording studios. Guy Randle, the owner and recording engineer at Rosewood Recording Company, incorporates analog audio equipment to skillfully sculpt and emphasize the rich tonal qualities of the nylon guitar.

For the sampling session, Guy Randle brought in the versatile and accomplished guitarist Michael Dowdle. Michael Dowdle has an impressive musical history. His session guitar work includes recording for artists such as Marie Osmond, The Osmond Brothers, John Schneider, David Archuleta, and The Jets as well performing on numerous movie and TV scores. He has also played on stage with artists like Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, The Coasters, Sam Cardon, and countless others. Michael's extensive and diverse work has earned him the reputation of being able to play a wide variety of styles with complete authenticity, from elegant classical guitar work to gritty blues riffs. This versatility was invaluable, resulting in guitar samples that suit many styles of nylon guitar playing.

hello, Greg…

I've read all the web site stuff, including the pdf manual, but could not find any precise specification of the required Kontakt version;

at the moment, I'm playing all the OTS products I've got using Kontakt 5.1.0.6066, which is the latest version supported on my operating system: X 10.6.8;

will I be able to play that modern nylon guitar?

Post

Evolution Modern Nylon would need Kontakt 5.5.1 or greater I believe. I understand there are some issues with those newer versions of Kontakt 5 working on 10.6.8, though. I think the version limitation is just with the installer itself, and I've heard of people being able to get new versions of Kontakt 5 working on 10.6.8 before, but it usually involves installing Kontakt 5 on a different machine with a newer version of Mac OS, and then copying the application back to your 10.6.8 system.

thank you so much for answering that one, but this does not totally clear up the confusion;

so when the product page specifies that the minimum system requirement is Mac OS 10.9, 10.10 or 10.11.1, this is not true — or is it?

shouldn't it read 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8 also?

Those system requirements are copied from what Native Instruments recommends. Although you could technically get it working on 10.6.8, it's tricky to get set up, which is why that's not listed among the compatible versions.

thanks, but I'm still confused: I checked the N.I. specifications and found that only the K 5.5.2 update needed OS X 10.9; as a matter of fact, the K 5.5.1 updater is officially compatible with OS X 10.8 and higher…

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/s ... j6lgdvrnbp

the reason why your product page requires X 10.9: isn't it precisely because this new instrument actually needs Kontakt 5.5.2?

this is something I need to know before I install yet another operating system.

Post

I just double-checked and the "created by" version number for Evolution Modern Nylon is "5.5.1.451". Everywhere I've seen shows Kontakt 5.5.1 only compatible with OS 10.9 and higher, but after checking the NI update page you listed, I can see that it says "OS X 10.8 or higher" as well.

The reason the minimum requirements on the product page for Evolution Modern Nylon show 10.9 or higher is because if somebody were to download the free Kontakt Player or purchase Kontakt 5 today, it would be the latest 5.5.2 version.
