Is SaltyGrain still being actively developed?

What are current alternatives that can do what SaltyGrain does, perhaps even better?

Post

No idea if it’s still developed or if they have plans for it, but it hasn’t been updated since a long time. They support and answer questions pretty fast though, so that’s good. (had to contact them for an authorization issue and they were responsive and very quick)

As for alternatives, they are a few other good granular delays / granulator effect that can compete against SaltyGrain. Off top of my head these are good ones that you could check:
-Argotlunar (http://mourednik.github.io/argotlunar)
-Melda’s Granular (https://www.meldaproduction.com/MGranularMB)
-GRM Tools SpaceGrain (http://www.inagrm.com/accueil/outils/grm-tools/spaces)
-Reaktor has tons of real time granular effects too
-Ableton Live Grain Delay is pretty solid if you use that DAW.

Hope that helps!

Our GrainSpace does a fine job and is currently on summer sale: http://www.audiority.com/shop/grainspace/

True, I forgot to mention it (probably cause I don't own it) but I've tried it and liked it. Just didn't get it since I already have all my grain need well covered, but it sounded good. Great granular audio mangler for a fairly low price.

Thank you for the list, Neon Breath! This helps a lot.

Do you have a favorite/go-to from this list?
Any recommendations for specific Reaktor Instruments/Ensembles?

I will try these out. I've actually been interested in demoing GRM SpaceGrain for a while now.

Ironically, I really like Argotlunar, that is free! The filtering per grains & correlation matrix is great and unique, never seen that in any other granulators. SaltyGrain comes close after that, it sounds really good but it just misses some filtering.

GRM Tools SpaceGrain is great, very powerful especially for 3D multichannel sound placement.

I'm not familiar with Reaktor ensembles anymore, I haven't used it for years but I know it has some good granulator ensembles, you'll have to dig & explore the library & the web for some.

I forgot to mentioned, maybe you could have a look at Crusher-X too, it might fit your needs, some people really like it: http://www.accsone.com

Melda stuff never gets the props it deserves imo. Mgranularmb is f*ckin amazing.

I've never found much that does what Saltygrain/ KTGranulator does as easily as it does. I wish it had wider ranges on some of the parameters, but for most straightforward granular effects it's still my go to. If it doesn't do what I want I use the soundhack granular delay, or I whip up something in reaktor.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

Yep totally agree. It's simple, straight forward, can create massive grain clouds or very subtle granulation and more importantly, is fun and easy to use compared to some other plugins that I find pretty cumbersome to use.

Hi there,
just thought I'd post an update here as well:
I've just released an updated version of SaltyGrain (1.1.2).
This is mainly a maintenance release with stability improvements + several updates and bug fixes to make sure the plugin works fine in various current plugin hosts.
I'm also running a -30% discount promo until half of August, so in case you would like to buy the plugin once you found it to work as expected, this might be a good moment. Just letting you know.
All the best,
Koen
