hi,
I'm working since this Summer to produce a CD
with some electric guitar solo improvvisations,
it's a long time a wanna do something like that,
here are two of the 5 track I recorded so far,
recording in not very hifi but I like it like that,
anyway I'd really like to know what you think of this kind of music,
both guitarists and non, please

kinda wierd.. nice effect on the guitar with regards to delay / harmonics thingy... almost like it is adding a deep brass instrument to the sound.
EQ wise it seems fills the spectrum well... (though I am using crappy work headphones)
IMHO... I think it's a bit too erm, self indulgant for my liking... I kept wanting to hear some structure appear in the piece... something that you could grab and take away with you... without that I feel as though there's no progression as the song goes on... I'm not really taken on a journey... but just randomly thrown around me own head... if that makes sense...
but then all the above is a taste thing... so don't take it to heart...
... I imagine a lot of people will disagree with me, and will love this kind of improvisation...
Ben

many thanks Ben, that's an interesting comment,
about self indulgent, well of course I think it's not, I may suggest that the structure is there,
just that is a long and not schematic structure, not an AABACBBA song thing,
you may figure the structures I'm using in these improvisations like the parts of a classic composition, terms like allegro, adagio, intro, coda, interlude, to create a varying soundscape,
but I agree that it's taste thing,
so where are those?!? who "will love this kind of improvisation..."

I'll have to agree with Glooper on the first one. It starts out cool, but then it never seems to develop and stays that way too long. The second song was a much more enjoyable listen for me, though I think it could be shortened. And since you already have milky delay, you might as well smatter some more effects in there. Maybe a LFO followed by a phasor or resinator. That might at least make the ambience a little more listenable.
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".

once there were ...
reminds of the stunningly sparse guitar work in 'dead man' ...
i like the playing just fine , and i don't need it to 'go anywhere' ...
if anything , i would like it to become more minimal ...
the level of noise bothers me a bit ...
folk philosophy ...
this is growing on me w/ each listen ...
there are some haunting little passages hidden away in here ...
perhaps a little too monotone ...
an introduction of varied dynamics would possibly increase interest ...

ok I see what you mean about the first track.freeztar wrote:I'll have to agree with Glooper on the first one. It starts out cool, but then it never seems to develop and stays that way too long. about the effects in the second one, here I have overdrive, harmonizer, delay and reverb, and if I want another one my multiprocessor says no, <sigh>
I may add it off line with a plugin on mastering but
I guess it would make the whole more muddy
