Here's my entry for the Cohmpetition.

My short take on the Acid Mothers Temple/Kawabata Makoto stylee. All buzz, drone and squall. Should have been 20 minutes at least, but rules are rules.

Wanted to get this out to the people before final voting. By my estimation there are 12 prizes in category A and 13 entries. My luck, I'll be the 13th guy, so best to get as much mileage out of this as I can before then. (though I think there might be a disqualification, fingers crossed )

Cosmic Fohm

Gear used is Audiomulch, Chromadelay, Supatrigga and Quadfrohmage (which made such a beautiful racket). Sounds are all from two sampled piano notes. This is a higher bit-rate version than the one submitted.

Onward Father Moo and Cheers,
Steve

Delicious feedback happening that pierced deep within.

So you can still extend this one to 20+ mins now that the cohmpetition is over ;)

Whomever wins (and I doubt you'll come last in here) good luck to all; I'll be getting the QF anyhow.

Ah, delighting in the misfortune of others. Nothing beats it.

Now about the next seventeen minutes, hmm, maybe I'll need to add a third note then.

Nice track, Steve! (I'm laughing because I'm late to the party and I came by a very convoluted path.)

There's a few buzzy clicks and things I wasn't sure about, but it's got a strange rhythmic insistence I really find appealing. 8)

 Excellent, a new one to add to the Cafe posting strategy: the convoluted bump. Must jot that down to memory.

Glad you liked the tune, the buzzy clicks and things were mostly a product of the combinations of Supatrigga cutup and comb filters. Admittedly not to everyone's tastes, as they tend to always sound odd and somehow wet. They came out of me trying to get a more live/sloppy playing feel out of software. I've listened to this several times since posting, I'm always taken with the bassy feedback. Sort of a happy accident that I exploited. And the good news, the track won me a copy of OhmBoyz delay.

Steve

Thanks.

I hadn't really thought about it missing higher frequencies, so interesting point. Perhaps a result of the whole track being made with only two piano samples, and I think both were even the same note.

At the time I think I was a worried of it being too high-end/reedy. I do tend to omit certain frequency ranges and emphasize others as a compositional tactic. At times, I'll write something and then see how it sounds with some rather extreme EQ'ing.

Steve

Congrats! And I like this piece alot too! :D Love how those inharmonics start weaving in and out, up and down. Very 'alarming'. ;)

Great stuff! :hihi:

Hey, thanks Mr. West. It was a lot of fun feeling the Outer Space Acid Mothers groove. I got the Quadfrohmage in the group buy now, been using it a lot. So much it can do. Would recommend it to anyone.

I'm quite happy with the OhMyGod! comb filter of theirs. But until I win a lottery.... :help:

I'll have to make do with SmEx goods. ;)

Shame you missed out on the group buy. The package I got worked out to getting Symptohm at a discounted price, and still get Quadf at no extra cost. Still pricy overall ($200 CAN maybe?), but excellent value. It soothes my empty wallet guilt by mentally including the free OhmBoyz into the bundle.

Can't go wrong with Smex goods. At least one makes it into everything I do. Best thing about the Smex competition was that I learned how to use everything they have. So they are the first to come to mind to fill a need.

I'd also recommend you check out 12th floor's ChromaDelay for comb filter needs.

Cheers,
Steve
