Hi Patrick,
I was wondering how possible it would be to have TAL Sampler open up Decent Sampler libraries?

https://www.pianobook.co.uk/ has recently released a whole bunch of libraries in that format and some of them are incredible. As generous as the DecentSampler dev is, unfortunately DecentSampler constantly crashes my DAW and I can't risk it anymore. Besides that TAL Sampler has other features that I love using.

Sfizz https://github.com/sfztools/sfizz can now load DecentSampler libraries so I'm guessing that means the file format is relatively open? That got me thinking how much I would love to be able to use TAL Sampler for this.

Thanks for considering

Couldn't you load a DecentSampler library into sfizz and save it as SFZ? TAL-Sampler can load SFZ instruments. ;)

Thanks for the suggestion, that would be amazing. I can't find a way to do that though, maybe I'm missing something

I haven't tried it yet, but there is: http://www.mossgrabers.de/Software/Samp ... erter.html

The SFZ capabilities of TAL Sampler are extremely rudimentary, so there's a strong chance that there may be some issues with loading instruments. On the other hand, the DecentSampler if format is pretty basic as well, so perhaps it might work?

Then there's the argument that TAL Sampler isn't designed for large size instruments, while many of the Pianobook are made with huge size samples, like every note on a piano with 20 second un-looped stereo samples.

Can't hurt giving it a try though!

I've had some request in with Patrick to extend the SFZ capabilities a little (my main sticking point is that it needs to read the tune opcode, so multisamples play in tune), but I suspect that it's low on the priorities list, and DecentSampler compatibility even lower.

That looks really interesting, thanks for the link, I'll give it a shot

All good points, thanks for your thoughts. Patrick did reply saying he will look into the format but I agree, I wouldn't expect it to be high on the priorities list. You make a good argument that TAL Sampler is not really designed for that sort of thing, I certainly wouldn't expect compatibility to be added.
