I'm working on a song of mine called About You. It's pretty much finnished exept that I'll redo the guitar solos. I assume that I need to compress the vocals a bit and do some EQing on some tracks. The problem is that I never learned how to properly use an EQ and compressor so some advice would be higly appericiated. I would like to keep it pretty dynamic otherwise, I'm not after that loud undynamic sound. The mix you have here is dry for the most. The song is here http://markanini.tripod.com/ click on AboutYou.mp3
I hope you enjoy it otherwise, it's sort of a Canterbury ballad type song.

I think that the majority of the problems are in the recording stage especially the vocals which are swamping all the other instruments, you seriously need to lose a lot of the lower frequencies on the vocals, the actual song is good for that prog sound, the bass is always on the move, lose the backing harmonies as well, redo the vocals and guitar thinking about where each instrument sit in the "frequency chart"

So a highpass at 150 Hz on the vocals should do the trick? How about compression?carlos wrote:I think that the majority of the problems are in the recording stage especially the vocals which are swamping all the other instruments, you seriously need to lose a lot of the lower frequencies on the vocals, the actual song is good for that prog sound, the bass is always on the move, lose the backing harmonies as well, redo the vocals and guitar thinking about where each instrument sit in the "frequency chart"

you could try a little compression yes but the problem maybe the mic and recording setup anyway, trying to eq out the low freq may help to get things into shape but will not be easy!!
