http://home.btconnect.com/christopherg/main.htm
superwave p8
download it, unzip the file to c:\vst\superwave\
i'll walk you through opening it in modplug if you need.

ok, what you got should have (and is i'm sure) the superwave p8 synth. it's a synthesizer that provides a lot of good clean sounds. the patches are great, and easily tweakable. did you put it in the folder i suggested?
it makes it easier down the road to sort and file when they are close to the root folder. anyway, you should have a folder with a file called "superwavep8.dll" and
"SWP8 MIDI Controller List.txt"
remember where that folder is. did you download modplug tracker? this is a free program and easily lets you program your song from the pc keyboard or midi keyboard. i keep it in c:\soft\audio\openmodplug.
you may have a different setup, but for the sake of my sanity, please just do exactly as i say and you will be making music in a few minutes. (instead of hours) i'm not trying to be rude, just to the point. i want you to make music, so let me know when you got the files set up.

i do want to follow your directions. and this is a very potent excersise in humility for me. but.
"c:/soft/audio/openmodplug." will i make this extension? should it exist already?
i downloaded the modplug folder and set it softly on my desktop for easy acces. i apologize greatly for my ignorance. and insist that it is only blissful when it is ignorant of itself.

yeah. cool. put the files from the modplug package into c:\soft\audio\openmodplug
put the files from the superwave package into c:\vst\superwave
http://openmpt.xwiki.com/xwiki/bin/view/Manual/Plugins
now this bit should walk you through getting the plug loaded. just remember where you put the .dll
let me know if you have problems.

Another very simple Host is Toby Bears Mini Host ... you can download it here
http://www.tobybear.de/p_minihost.html
It can load either one VST instrument or one VST effect, which can then be played from your qwerty keyboard. You can also record the results as a wav file, and then open that up in cool edit. Download and install it ... then we can help you get some VSTs to play with
