hi guys,

I'm SURE you heard this so many times before. but I have a song I made in cubase sx 101 and it crackles after 12 seconds into playing.

It's just 3 midi and 4 audio tracks. with no effects.

I get a cpu pop-up error just after the crackling starts.

System spec:

AMD athlon 64 3200+ 2ghz
1.5gb ram
audigy LS
150gb ATA HDD
geforce 6600gt (but that doesn't matter)

it worked fine on my OLD machine (athlon 750mhz, 384mb ram, soundblaster II)

thanks in advance for any help....

PS: I've tried changing the ASIO settings...but no luck. help!

Since you've obviously bought the software why not consult Steinberg Support?

Various possible reasons. Firstly, check your CPU usuage meter. What's it looking like prior to/during the crackles?

@Liero: I posted here because of the many dedicated musicians and help I recieved in the past. Very Happy

I'm still waiting for a reply from Steinberg Support (that was first port of call). although its early yet and the weekend.

@Manc Chris: the CPU is running really cool (35°C) and less than 50% usage via cool'n'quiet setup. no other programs open.

the crackle/garbble sounds a bit delayed also. I even tried it last night on a minimal track (2x audio/2x midi)...but same thing! :S

A suggestion: mute all tracks but one, and keep an eye on the CPU meter. Then on to the next, etc, so to identify which track is the culprit. Or vice versa: play while muting only one track at the time.

After that we can zoom in on why you get lousy performance.

Or is the crackling recorded to an audio track. Sounds possible is it always starts at 12secs.

The audigy is not optimal, but nevertheless it should work.

What ASIO drivers do you actually use? Creatives, KX-project, Asio4All, or something provided by Steinberg? What settings?

Also tried setting the project to 48kHz, so you prevent resampling?

well, the very VERY first thing to do is to upgrade to the latest version of Cubase, which is SX 3.1, as now you're using an unsupported version, and the first thing Steinberg support are going to suggest is to make sure you update to the latest version of the software...

next, as you're using a less than optimal sound card, make sure you try all of the various drivers available for it...

kx drivers

asio4all

these are great tools if the drivers you're currently using aren't working, google the above and give them a a try...

as a Cubase owner, and one who has tried going the Steinberg support route, I can say that remark is f**king hilarious.

As hilarious as asking for 3.02 support on kvr when 3.1 is already out for a month.

D'oh! oops, my mistake it's not out yet on P2P LOL

And if you go to their forum, you'd see how many problems people seem to be having with 3.1, and thus, rolled back to 3.02...

Perhaps not so hilarious as you make it seem...

It all depends of your setup and how good you configured your system. you talk about people going back to 3.02, but for somhairle, 3.02 is troublesome, and he's talking about 3 midi+4 audio. if the app couldn't handle this, we would have heard about that.

SX 3.1 is very stable & great here, so no rollback for me.

cheers
