Well, those who know me know that I use Tracktion, and also EXT. I don't really see that changing at the moment, just to be honest up front.
However, I gave Podium it's first try today. I got the demo, and started mucking around. I must say, that I was very confused at first. But things started to click. And just knowing that there are things like surround mixing, gapless engine, an actual audio editor, etc. was very impressive.
I'd like to get to know more about Podium, so I'll be trying it some more during the demo period. The Computer Music issue with the free version isn't here yet in the States(at least in any of my local stores), but I think I may not want to use that in fear that I just may want to buy the full version! And I just can't afford that right now(just got another STUPID medical bill, grrrrr).
But I will be watching it. If nothing else, I would love to be able to support Zynewave at some point, as I like what they have going.
Any tips, advice, or whatever are welcome! I just wanted to say that I am impressed!

Haha, I have been looking at podium today yoo, very nice, but seeing as I learning EXT and right now trialing ERA2 (nice combo btw) I have my hands full. It will be one of those future things.

Well, I'm sure there is a way I could fit it in, even if it's only for surround mixing(been wanting to do some of that). But it seems very stable.
Again, I don't see it replacing what I got, but possibly fitting in just perfectly. Too bad you can't rewire it to Tracktion!

Oh, and it looks wonderful. Very clean interface, and once you learn how to configure the screen, you can make it look any way you want to.

For sure, apparently very stable. looks good to, I've just been spending more time learing and trialing new gear than I have benn writing music, which is a bit of a trap.
But I have just given up on Reaper. Its really good and all and I got it looking great, and the value is excellent but I didnt aid my workflow at all.
Apparently Podium is set up with work flow in mind.

For those interested in the CM version (which is v1.77 by the way, and is complete except for the reverb effect and no upgrade path)...
...you may like to know that it is ALSO included on the CM111 April 2007 cover disk as well (in other words, a second month). AND - if you are only buying CM to get Podium - the CM111 cover disk ALSO includes a special free version of U-HE ZebraCM
which initially sounds to me like the best freebie VST synth they ever gave away.
Okay so it means waiting another month, but it is really worth the wait

Damn, Well. I can speak for Zebra as I havnt tried it, butPodium is looking great.
Just a little more playtime.
the flow is great. The price is a steal also.
I for some reason just have this 'want' to write great tracks using smaller developers gear. I will still need to drop the mixinto SX at some stage, but what I am finding is some amazing gear and I have run into a few developers who are really passionate about creating somthing special.

I like to drag a VSTi on the right side an input on the left and start recording immediately. But who knows? It may be equally fast in Podium.

I've been giving podium a test run and I really, really like it.
It would be awesome if I could rewire it to FL. I'm trying to use fl as a vsti in podium now, but it just seems to consume way too many resources this way.
I like the sample mangling and pianoroll of FL, but I like how presets and audio routing is handled in Podium. Not to mention how flexible the freeze function is.
The fact that it can store my x-station sysex data in the project is just brilliant. Now I can program my x-station, play it, render it out and still go back to it later without losing any info.

TBH I have been waiting for ReWire wupport in Podium too, Kyran. I asked Fritz about it recently and he said it is on the list to do, but not near the top. Then he said the stuff above it would take him "two to three months"... so in real terms we may well see ReWire quite soon.
[as I use Reason as my main sampler/instrument, it is difficult to do much with Podium until that is there].
With the positive buzz around Podium though I may well just give it a try sooner to see how well it works for me.
But like zeoy, I too am comfortable numb with Tracktion at present, and looking forward to T3 immensely

Ha, yeah, It appears that once traction gets a user, it keeps them.
I think I'll give Podium a run though, I'll play the demo out for a week or to and see what I think. It looks too well thought out (first impression) not to give it a good rolling.
I'm trying to master EXT at the same time so... we'll see.

Having been a beta tester and early adopter of Podium, I can thoroughly recommend it.. It's true that it doesn't suit everyone, but which host does?
From the word go I found it very capable, well thought out, and well presented. Frits is a very affable chap, and very willing to listen to criticism and encouragement. Bugs rarely stay longer than a point release, and new features are added all the time.
It's good that it's getting the attention it deserves
