I'm interested in having my FW 1814 modified by Black Lion audio.

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this company.

I've had good experience with using a nice external wordclock and higher quality I/O boxes via the digital I/O on the 1814 and my EMU 1820m. For $400 dollars I was wondering if their modifications compare favorably to using a Sync I/O (Digidesign) and a Digimax FS. Those aren't components I own but have had the pleasure of using to amazing effect on my perception of sound through my monitors and especially my headphones.

Any input welcome. If it's too good to be true I'll continue saving for an HD3 system.

Everything BLA touches turns to gold! I've done their Bellari RP220 mod (since discontinued) and the difference is jaw-dropping! I've heard nothing but good things about their clock/analog stage mods, although I've not had any of that type of work done myself. Gearslutz has a number of members who've had BLA mods done. Maybe head over there for feedback.

Thanks dude, I got some great info there. I think I'll be schedualing my appointment soon. People are saying that their modded M-Audio interfaces sound more accurate than their Apogee Rosettas. It still sounds to good to be true but in a few weeks I'll have an extra $400 for the tweak head version. It includes the optimized wordclock mod, replacing all analog components (including preamps) and improved D/A optimization that adds 30dB (!!!) of headroom.

I wish I could reproduce sound examples accurately but they are all mp3 encoded and I'm not in front of my monitors. I have heard nothing but good feedback though so I'm not too worried.

I had them modify my delta 1010 a little while back and was pleased with the results. I cant compare it to rosettas or anything like that, but it was a noticeable difference. The soundstage seems wider and to have more depth to it. The midrange especially seems less hazy. I figure it will work until I can afford a Lynx one of these days.
