Slick my song - Alchemy challenge

A line or two below you can find a song. I recorded it a while ago and it's one of first tracks I ever did on a computer. I like the song, but I don't much like my recording, I posted it here a couple of months ago asking for help and today SHUSH suddenly popped out with a kickass version.
There it goes:
The original
SHUSH beach cocktail version
Funky Lime's bubblegum grunge version
Anyone in a mood to give a try to re-do a different take? Slash and mangle, remix, delete, redo from scratch or build around, any approach would go, if you think you can turn lead into gold.
If you're up to it, below you can find a pack with rough audio separate tracks:
in mp3 (17MB): http://www.fairlyconfusing.net/docs/_mexican_mp3.rar
or in wav (70MB) if you think it's worth the bandwidth (which I doubt): http://www.fairlyconfusing.net/docs/_mexican_wav.rar
There is also live midi recording of my lame playing inside of both.
If you'd like to sing for yourself and can't figure out what do I mumble there, the lyrics go here: http://www.fairlyconfusing.net/mex.html
If you only care to comment, be a welcomed bumper.

I should've mention that Shush had more difficult startpoint as he only had my version mixed down without the drums, which are just ugly kick'n'clap indeed. Otherwise he would probably delete more.
As for strings - yes, they are sort of cheesy, but in the other hand it's cheesy song. I think they just fit.

When you say the strings are cheesy do you mean:
1- It's a good idea to add the strings but they SOUND cheesy or
2- putting strings in the song in general is cheesy?
Just curious. Thanks for the feedback.

I used to walk by this poster on a daily basis for a while, kind of traumatic experience.
@SHUSH: I meant these particular strings sound a bit cheesy/plastic/80's and I like it this way and it was a good idea to add the strings.

been kicking this around this evening... i found the acapella track particularly inspiring, so i built a little jam tune around it.
just realized i mixed it kind of hot, be careful. it's very rough.

Nice one Funky Lime! Quite different and I like it. In this form my stiff voice could be even possibly appealing to long-haired dreamy teenagers on bikes.
Seriously, it's good creative approach, thank you.
