Hi everybody !

Could you recommend me some good Harpsichord sounds VST ? I used EDIROL Hyper Canvas only and I think about M-Audio Key Rig or Kontakt.

Best regards!

Well, I quite like the one that comes with the Kontakt2 library. My grandad used to build Harpsichords and the one in Kontakt sounds quite nicely sampled to my ears. It even includes the *dukk* sound of the key lifting back up. :) Bit of an expensive reason to buy Kontakt though. :!:

If you have another sampler that handles Kontakt/Giga etc., I'd look into specialised Harpsichord sample packs such as those provided by PostPiano or EastWest etc. as you're probably going to get the most authentic Harpsichord sound that way. I don't think many synthesized (FM or otherwise) VST Harpsichords come close to the plucked sound of a sampled Harpsichord.

Hi, thank you for the answer. Yes I'm looking for "pure" and not synth harpsichords. I need them to record runs played together with the guitar (power/speed metal). I think that Kontakt will be the thing I need. A friend of mine uses EW Colossus but I don't like the sound of pianos and harpsichord there.

the flemish one in sampletekk/pmi historic keyboards is the best I heard.

There's a great one in "Pianoteq" that's not sampled.

Before you spend any money, give the free Blanchet 1720 soundfont a try. It's certainly your best option in that price range. :D

Wow, I just downloaded that and it's a beauty!

Just been comparing the Kontakt one to this set. Doesn't have the release samples, but there's no denying that coupled with rgcaudio SFZ, that could solve the OP's needs without resorting to Kontakt. There's also 4 different presets here. With kontakt, you just get the one harpsichord. Though it sounds a bit cleaner than these ones. (but once again, we're talking a massive difference in price)

IIRC, there was another much smaller freeware harpsichord soundfont out there that had some okay release samples, if I find it again, you might try adding them to the sf2 at a low volume and see how it sounds…

Here we go, it's MT_Clavicembalo884, ignore the fact the site says it's a piano :hihi:
Dinky little thing that doesn't sound all that great by today's standards, but if you lowered the volume of the release samples and added them to Blanchet 1720, it might just work.

Richman2 has a harpsichord patch which sounds like this:

It is free to try.
