bored shitless. Now I know how the rest of you must have felt all this time...

I just can't think of anything new to write, I just keep making the same track over and over.

I keep thinking I'll take a break, but I miss playing around with synths and drum machines too much, even if it results in no decent output

Write away from the box, write it down with a pen (even if it's just ideas and not notes) and then attempt to execute your ideas. Using plug-ins that you're new to. Fun!

hmm,

my problem is different: i have loads of unfinished files, lots of ideas and a lot of stuff to do it with, but i can't get my stuff finished except for the contest-songs (mostly last minute). I need self-discipline, but i don't know how to acheive it, i don't know how to reach the goal.

Welcome to the club.

Actually, taking a break can really help. My brother and I were going through my great unfinished ouvre, and it was quite rewarding! I'd say walk away for a bit, or try to get to know a totally unfamiliar-yet-interesting synth/sampler/host/whatever.

Maybe instead of trying to think up something new, just do something new. Do it even if it doesn't seem, feel, or sound good at the moment you're doing it. It may come to that later. Point is to do it and remain interested and/or committed enough to finish. Then you might have the perspective you need to move in another direction. It would be because you have moved in another direction.

or later, in my experience, hence the shed load of half finished tracks on my hard drive. Actually, I find it quite good to delete all of my works in progress from time to time - in my experience, if I get a few minutes of music going and just keep listening to it not knowing what to do, then it should be deleted.

I also think half of my problem is not being able to find the sounds I want. I'm definitely no synth programmer, my mind doesn't seem to work that way, but of all the synths I've tried, with all the fantastic patches compiled by people with real talent, I can never really find what I want.

BTW, I now own less synths than I have had in the last 5 years, just 4 in fact, Albino, Predator, Imposcar and Atmosphere - that's plenty enough to make good music...

dunno really. My wife hates it all as I spend too much time on the computer, some friends think it's great, others less so. I think that the people who's opinion I really value would probably say, it's 'okay', i.e. not great but not total shite either.

A musician once said to me;if somethings not working after 30mins move on to something else which is a good rule but what i do now as well is i change the it.Thats where live excels,i have it set up so that i never run out of inspiration.Half finishes tracks can be unfolded in the library and dragged into the current project so anything worth keeping gets used.It's also good for experimentation as i can always come up with something new!

My sweetheart likes some of my stuff, but not everything. Some of my friends like, most of them dislike my music. So, it's not completely different in my case.

Cyph, I like your music (but you know that). As far as seeking new inspiration, go buy/pick up an instrument you are unfamiliar with (djembe, guitar, simple wood flute, etc) and/or pick up a microphone to grab some unique experimental sounds from around the house or studio. (it could be new software, but I would say look outside the box) You sound bored of your medium, not your art, imo.

If your passion/appreciation for music is still strong, then try a something new and grow with it.
