Wow! Very unique and well-constructed. Sounds like a sort of 'Soviet bloc' era take on techno. I love that it's so dry and reverb-free, which really gives the sounds some hardcore electronic crunch. I'd still like to hear a bit of atmosphere in there, though, just to help it breathe a bit.

It could also use a more dignified ending, I think. Something a little more resolute and final, instead of the meandering end it has now, which is cute, but feels just a little bit like a cop out.

Go for broke and give us an ending that would make Gorby smile, pound his fist on the table (spilling his vodka) and shout "Dah!".

; )

That's some good feedback :D

I'm surprised you didn't think that power chord lead was too loud.

I have some endings in my head to try out. Something more of a finale than a "power off" perhaps... Heh.

Funny you got that Soviet association

Actually the 'power off' ending might work better if you build up to a stronger, noisier ending, and then use some sort of tempo control to slow it down until it stops, like the power went out for real.

Just a thought. :)

I was in a surf band a long time ago and wrote an instrumental song that I'm still proud of called 'Song of the Volga Surf Men'. It had a minor key Dick-Dale stomp to it and I always pictures these old time grim-faced Russian men in bathing caps sitting on their longboards in the Volga river, resolutely awaiting the waves that they know may never come.

I'll have to dig that one up and throw it on my myspace site one o' these days!

I actually used tempo control in Cubase. The thing is, I've imported a sample of the basic groove of the track, but in double tempo, stretched to the song tempo, pitch shifted to 3 different octaves. Those stay in the same tempo and fade out during the ending, while the MIDI tempo is slowed down, so that all the VST's start playing slower and slower.

Try being a little more heavy-handed.

"In Soviet Russia, the tempo controls you!"

Haha. I think cheap tricks like triple octaving the whole mix are a bit heavy-handed. But I assume you'd like a more abrupt tempo change. True?
