Could this pass as instruments or does it still sound like a Fl Studio creation from a geeks using his home computer, sitting in his bedroom is his under drawers>

I have come along way the past three years, but still working on the hardest part......EQ and effects. My old stuff sounded like finger nail on chalkboard. May still to some

Sorry I missed your comment in my email. It's funny that you mentioned "The Cure" because although I didn't think it sounded like The Cure, they are an influence, along with with all the manchester post punk stuff one one side, and embarrassingly LA metal, and then Bristish metal and Type O Negative thrown in for good measure.

I am going to complete the song and then find a singer hopefully. Thanks and have a good Holiday.

I appreciate that a lot. Took me a while to appreciate those that create the effects in the VSTI world. It's fun to play around with them, they can do wonders to very bland sounding things.

Sounded more like the killers than owt to me.

Not bad at all. The overall production sounds a bit shoddy (bottom end a bit muddy - sort out the bass and drums frequencies? too much reverb on the gitar? a bit uneven on the bass volume?)

You've definitely got a bit of a live feel there though though which is difficult in all sequenced music.

I can't EQ for Shite. I just basically do what I think sounds right but having a smorgasbord of old amps and speakers that do not give me that ability to master to a professional level, even if I could, doesn't help.

That is an important topic and one that I am weak in. I have a book, The Mixing Engineers Handbook, that would be helpful for sure. But I bet my speakers have a lot to do with it because the bass sounds i little muddy, but the drums sound good to my ears. It's probably my speakers.

Sounds excellently non sequenced. EQ with high pass on every channel and you should be able to clear things up no end and make it a bit louder too. Dont ask me what frequencies to set the EQ at as I always do each channel by ear.

Well, I wasn't having a go at all. I'd rather hear what you did there than some sterile attempt at pop/rock produced perfectly with no soul. The 'sound' aspect of it will come in time i'll wager. You've almost got the feel of it there now.

Appreciate the help. My high hearing has been effected by standing to close to guitar amp, like a lot of other folks. Bet most sound engineers make sure not to develop this problem, could be a career breaker.

tehlord, I'll give it a whirl, but me and filters haven't had much success. I need to read this book I have and it has a chapter on filters. I am not subtle enough for filter tweaking as of right now. But my objective was acheived according to you, so I appreciate it.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to EQing and have probably explained in a horrendous way. You have a 3 band EQ on each channel strip in FL anyway. Simply drop the bass to zero and adjust it's frequency until you can just about hear it having an effect on that channels sound. All you're losing is whatever sound is being produced below the level of human hearing, and therefore freeing up a lot more headroom in the process. A lot of the muddy sound disappears. I'm sorry I cant be more technical about it but it works for me

I use EQ, and lots of it, on every channel, I just don't have a good speaker configuration for the masses and need practice.
