Well....

I got caught up in the compulsive buying frenzy for the Sylenth1 group buy.

I hit the buy button and suddenly I got this sinking feeling.

My heart palpated, the blood rushed to my head.

Oh my God what have I done now? I don't need another synth do I?

I haven't even dented the sounds in Omnisphere, 500 bumbingos!!! Shit! You dumb ass!

A fool and his money indeed!

And the world economy sky is falling!!! HELP!!!

Well now. I got that little puppy up and running and well, it's pretty cool.

Hey a hundred bucks? I'm not buying drugs?

It's rare that a track makes me smile but this is one of them. Sample aside I assume this is ALL sylenth then? Makes me glad I bought one too. It should be on the Lennar Digital site in the 'made with Sylenth' section.

Excellent stuff

Especially that glitched sample and awesomz lead

He means keep the panning of the bass line in the center as opposed to either side. Generally that is a rule of thumb, especially in electronic music with synth bass, but sometimes the Beatles (their producers/engineers) broke that rule. I can't think of the proper explanation right now, maybe someone else will chime in with more the more elaborate easy to understand answer. Any sound/instrument that is bass oriented or filling that element in the mix, in the frequency range of say about 256khz downwards (again someone please jump in with their mixing knowledge and correct me or add), like most bass lines, kick drums, sub bass is kept dead center with no panning. It has to do with the energy and frequency room the bass is taking up, phase issues etc.

But regardless I still like the song and the mix. Try it with the bass centered, and re-post it.

I am aware that in most cases bass and kick drum need to be centered-low frequencies in general.

I want to stay humble here because I know I have MUCH learn in the world of production/engineering.

What I'm saying is I didn't pan the bass and so I don't know how to center it???

I often have a hard time getting the bass & drums to lay wellt the bottom of the mix and was pleased that on this track the drums and bass seem to sit well at the bottom of the mix?

I'll load up the track and take a closer look/listen.

The Selynth patch is 406 BS Basic Bass.

All the sounds in this track are out of the box Selynth1 including the bass.

Cool! I'd really appreciate that!

No filters on the Bass-like I said it's right out of the box.

I used the Mod Wheel on some of the OTHER tracks but NOT on the Bass.

What DAW are you using? You can apply a hi pass filter via EQ on some or most of them. It can really help create more space and headroom in the mix. It removes the bass and sub bass frequencies that you cant hear, but those frequencies still take up headroom (loudness to put it simply).

I'm using Live 7 and I do have the bass compressed a bit.

On this song I did almost nothing to enhance the tracks-no EQ etc etc.

I'm not sure if Live has a hi pass filter?

I'll try it if I can find it?

The EQs or the Auto Filter can be used as highpasses.

I'm sure live has a hi pass filter somewhere.

What I tend to do is solo each track one at a time and then adjust the frequency of the hi pass filter until I JUST hear it effect the sound. What you're doing is removing any signal below that frequency and therefore giving yourself more headroom. This will let you turn up the level on the master channel a bit before it starts to clip. It'll also make the whole mix sound a lot clearer.
