Prompted by the earlier discussion of K-S synthesis and BBDs, I decided to play with the tuned delays in MFM2. I started playing around with the feedback paths to get different timbres of metallic percussion and such and through use of allpass filters I stumbled on what kind of sounds like a tuned hand drum at good moments.

http://www.3amnoise.net/tuned_drum.mp3 Careful there are some parts that get unexpectedly loud toward the middle and end.

I'd like to know more about the relationship between the allpass filters and the delay lines. I have very basic understanding of what's happening from what I hear but I'm still not to the point where I know what will happen when I make an adjustment to the key scaling or modulation. How are the allpass filters different from the phaser in the feedback fx? Is there a way to figure out how much feedback to add to get certain decay behaviors? Is there anything happening in the six other feedback modes (four mono, quad permute, etc.) that cannot be accomplished with the user matrix?

I guess I'm trying to say that I understand the principals of the features but I don't get how they work in practice.

Thanks. :)

cool audio... I've never used MFM for that sort of thing... mostly more normalish reverby/delay stuff. Now I want to try it out some!

Reverbs, yes.... My attempts thus far to create a really dense, lush reverb have also been fruitless. I think it's possible, I've gotten close...

If not a whole reverb, certainly something like MFM2 is great for replacing or augmenting the early reflection modules of other reverbs.

MFM2 is a really amazing Plug In. What is so great about the tuned delays is that you can play them on a Midi Keyboard even using the Pitchbend so the actually function like e.g. the Combfilters in Absynth. If you route irregular percussive Impulses into MFM2 and then play the delays you can create stringlike Instruments sounding like a strange sitar. Besides from that MFM2 is great for twisting beats around or creating totally chaotic distorted textures.

Here is a track I did today using the above combfilter method, just sending a bell sound into it every 4 beats and then playing the tuned delays on the Masterkeyboard. Quite a complicated routing in the User Matrix and a lot of Filter Modulation is neccessary to get really interesting effects, when no sound enters MFM2 it immediately goes into overdrive, a wicked patch this is, I'll post it here one of theses days.

Another track using MFM2's combfilter/tuned delays feature. Sending a triangle sound and a deep bass into MFM2 as a sound source and then playing a sequence on the keyboard.

The links to your sample bank seem a little screwy, but I was able to find them. I really like them. MFM2 has always struck me as a very interesting puzzle somewhat beyond my ability to crack. So presets are most welcome. Looking forward to this library.

Thank's krankyone. But the links take you either to the pre-order page including the demo set or they take you directly to the Soundcloud set so what exactly do you find screwy about it?

Here is a dedicated thread for MFM2 Beat Twista:
