Very nice (I don't scare easily), however I think it would be better if the arpeggios were faded up and down, maybe dynamically filtered and panned so they seem to drift.
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently no longer an 'elderly', now a 'senior'! Is that promotion?

Sounds very sterile and quite melancholic. Not really scary or ambient to me, but yes, nice one. Has a huge bass, at least it seems so in my cans.

thank you, that is a good idea.

yeah I didn't think it very scary either, but by 5-year-old son did :-)

I'm horrible with genres. If not ambient, then what would you call this (and I agree it's not very ambient) ?

Yes, I think listening back the bass might be a bit on the hot side!

thanks

I think the proper genre title is downtempo electronica.

A very nicely made piece in the fruity loops mould. I found myself aching for the chord to drop a fifth.

HA HA! I thought about it. I was trying to be just a shade less predictable than I usually am :-)

Funny you mention FL. I own it, but it isn't even installed anymore. I just never "got it" having grown up with Cakewalk and 4-tracks before that. It's funny how I still think "linear" composition, even when I create a piece like this which is so obviously made up of loops.

Perhaps I should give FL 9 a try. It's pretty great how once you buy it, you get every future upgrade for nothing!

thought it was cool, I liked the concept, the build and the change.
maybe a little more improv on the lead for a bit more interest, but overall nice sound.

Beautiful piece. Not really scary, but very dramatic with a big sense of uneasiness .
It made me feel really uneasy.

My 2c :

I don't think the bass riff fits very much,as i think it explores too many notes,if you understand what I mean .

I loved the build up and the modulation, but I didn't like that E sus 4 as i found it very 'out' in this song.It takes you somewhere else too much. I think just continuing with the F#min Dmin thing would have been just fine,(and maybe just adding climax with a lead and dynamics)

As predictable as it sounds, for example,at 2:56 I would have expected the same chords repeated, maybe with some stronger notes on top and a building in dynamics, maybe with some impro lead job on it :D

thanks to everyone for the suggestions. This forum is amazing. I only spent a couple of hours on this track originally (I sometimes spend days!), but based on the suggestions I think I'm going to spend a couple of more and 1) rework the B-section 2) simplify the bass line 3) add some "improv" synth in there 4) mess with the pan/filtering (dynamically) on the arpeggios.

in other works, implement every single suggestion you folks made :-) They were all good. Many thanks!!

I think the best stuff comes out in very short time :D sometimes (VERY rarely) i finished a track in half an hour and it was the best I've ever done.
Other times (the most) I could spend hours tweaking a string part, then finish erasing it. Making music is such a cool thing.
