Right guys, I have a good feeling about this one!

The 10th One-Synth-Challenge! .... and our chosen synth is 'Acidrack' .

Create a track using only Acidrack for all the sounds, including percussion!

You will find some info/discussion re. Acidrack here.....
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... ks&start=0
..and you can download it here ....
http://www.acid-milch-und-honig.de/acid ... lugins.htm

********* RULES ( please read fully) **********

The track can be made in any host.

All the sounds in our tracks will be created by Acidrack.

**FX**
The use of Fx will be limited to
EQ ( including exciter type ), Delay ( unmodulated ), static spatial ( reverb, ambience, stereo width etc.) and dynamics (Compression/gate/limiter).

Hosts native EQ is acceptable, but otherwise such Fx must .....
*be freeware, and easily available via download.
*generally usable in a wide range of hosts
*not be used in such a way as to transform the sounds to a degree
which makes them unrecognisable as those obtained from Acidrack
..... otherwise you will be named, shamed, blamed, tamed, maimed, flamed, perhaps even framed! ( but you still might win a prize ) :hihi:

*** There is no track length limit.

**** Finished tracks, in mp3 format, should be uploaded here ...

http://onesynthcomp.4shared.com/

* Please post in this thread when you upload a track, that way I can prevent
abuse of this public folder. Anything uploaded without an accompanying post
here will be deleted.

For the sake of clarity, name your track in the following format ...

Title of Track - Artist Name ( in that order pleeeze! )

* Before you do that though, create a notepad/text file and describe briefly what you have used ( host, how many instances of Acidrack, which fx, how many instances.. etc. )
....... keep it short though, that way it can be read in preview mode without the need to be downloaded.

Save the notepad/text file as the title of your track, that way it will sit above or below the track itself when you upload it, and not get mixed up with any others. ( feel free to post or PM me if you have any problems uploading )

CLOSING DATE for submissions is 21st November

***How is the comp judged?
The comp will be judged by the votes of KVR members. depending on the number of submitted tracks, the voting may take the shape of a single vote poll, or a more flexible multiple vote option.

..... NOTE ..... Only tracks uploaded to the hosting folder allocated for this comp, before the closing date, accompanied by said info text file, will appear on the poll. Please do not post seperate, external links to tracks you wish to be included in the comp.

And the prize(s)???????
@@ Rob_lee has generously donated some patchbanks, and I suspect, true to form, he will throw something else in!
@@ Maxsynths has generously donated a copy of Cryologic.
... thanks once again to Rob and Max for their support of this, and of previous comps
@@ I will come up with something you will hopefully enjoy playing around with, to add to the growing participants prize bundle .... and make your participation worthwhile, ....and ...
ANY OTHER OFFERS OF PRIZES WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

I like to think though, and judging by the previous comps, that the biggest prize is the joy of participation, and the learning process ( despite the hairloss and skull inflicted damage to walls and furniture ) that comes with the challenge of stretching one synth to its limits.
So, nothing to lose ( other than hair, sleep and sanity ), and plenty of time!

**** Good luck with those tracks! ...... and have fun!!! **** --------

Ouch, this little thing kills my cpu (two instances and it's dying already...) but limits often are an advantage (right, Max? ;-) )
Question: no reverb allowed??

Post

I will try to make something this time. Is reverb allowed?
It turned out the kittens mittens were hidden in the cats pyjamas all along.

Yes indeed Mac! :D :tu:

Didn't try this synth yet... it seems really interesting...

Post

Ooops ... forgot to allow reverb ... that would be cruel!! ... Reverb is allowed! I'll go edit :)

Post

Update on the prizes .... and my apologies to Max, I forgot to announce that Max is donating 'Teutonic Tension' .. a soundbank for reFX Vanguard.

...any More????? :hyper:

That's odd Mac, I struggle to get anything worse than 6% for one instance on my partly senile single core system - are you trying to write a 15 minute track with one key :?: :hihi:

  No no, actually what I'm trying to do is pretty normal, but this vst's behavior is not... a three-note chord and the cpu goes to hell, I had to set the release to zero to just keep those three notes going (badly) :(
I'll give it another shot, but I'm afraid I may not be able to partecipate this time :(

hey here :)

yes, i know, the posible envelopes attack and release values are a little abnormal and if you have a fast arpeggio with long envelope release and using acidrack not in mono or legato mode, then the synth calculates to much releasvalues at same time and eats cpu power. but sorry, a fast polyphone arpeggio with long releases makes (i think) not very much sense, it sounds absolute slushy on every kind of synthesizer :)
the very short attack time i made possible in acidrack sometimes produces startup-clicks (if attack is absolute 0), but this was intended and nice for me by creating percussive or trashy sounds.
(who downloaded the acidrack more than a week bevore, please test to download again, because the really first version had a lot of bugs with amp envelope)

yesterday i recognized, why the FM on my acidrack is sounding so much terribly :dog: its because i made a wrong connection in synthedit. now i am on fixing this, but if you started to make this challenge allready, i dont know if its good to upload new version while challange is active? however, i think for the next days i will put the corrected version on my page as an second download link beside the past version. cpu-problems i cant fix yet (i used up to 9 instances and it was working fine on my 2x2.8GhZ AMD CPU), and i made songs with it allready, you only need to watch my myspace account, it is www.myspace.com/acidmilchundhonig and listen the songs.

its a "made with synthedit" synth and because of its my first one i could only change the hole synth construction to save CPU, and this is to much work for me yet, i am in stress to produce a CD :) i am musican no comercial programmer :hihi: so thats, why it is freeware.

No worries andimaschine .... this kinda stuff make the challenge more exciting! ... hee hee ... I'm using the old version, and I'm gonna stick with it till My track is complete ... then I might even do another track with the new fixed version :hihi:

Actually, it would be nice if you could change the ID of the new version so both could be used ... or at least, I wouldn't lose use of the old version when I download the new one ... then again, I could put the new version in a different subfolder, and FL will recognise both! ... I think?? :?

Tattie, if you just rename the *.dll file to keep each instance unique it works fine - I'm running both happily this way. :D

I'll correct myself as the new version does now have a handfull of presets - but I'd still advise getting under the hood and having a crack as this is a very capable synth 8) Reminds me of Galileo with an industrial bent :D

I've noticed with numerous new synth designs that CPU hit can really go through the roof if they are seriously pushed (TAL stuff can scare me at times :-o ). However, my tinkering so far has kept to no more than 6% cpu with mono lines and about 11% with a three note chord. It should be usable although I sympathise with Mac if he's looking to make more complex stuff than this - he's talented like that 8)

Best of luck,
Mouxbar

Yeah, hope Mac can find a way through :( ... My system is nothing to write home about, (Dell, P4, 512M, 3.2GHz) and I'm seeing CPU figures which suggest I will have no probs running 4 for percussion, one for bass, one or two pads and a couple of simultaneous melody tracks .... therefore I didn't imagine anyone would have a prob running this beast .... and why the rules have not accomodated the use of samples/sampled phrases.

I can overload my computer with a single instance and a long release triad :)

I have a suggestion for next version: let both oscillators have all waveforms (sine/square/pwm/triangle/saw/ramp/random/white+pink noise), it would be cool if the lfos could be routed to both osc 1 and 2 separately.

oh sh** :)

is this true, that you cant use mixdowns of single instances of this synth in the challenge? now i understand the problems :hail:

i will build in the synth a complete voice control selector next weeks, but first i must buy the right module for this! and i think i put this feature only in extended donation-version, or everybody who made a song for this challenge and send it to me!
:harp:

i not changed the ID in the plugins new versions, but i did experiment with diferent versions, and there was no problem with IDs, i only changed, like slugfest99 told, the acidrack.dll name and so i had 2 diferent versions
(but with same internal ID) working. i dont know, how it is in FL?

andi.

@deepfiber: maybe for my next synth ;) because i need the synth like it is now, only the sound could be a little more analogue, mut in the moment i dont know how :?

Post

I'm on an Intel Atom N280 1,66Ghz so dont worry too much :) its like the 10:th slowest cpu in the world today. I just stick with mono. Actually all long swooshy pads made by almost all synths can overload it when playing chords.
