I just updated Reaper for the first time since I bought it and then a few hours later another new version rolls out. From the sounds of it, though, updates seem to show up practically every few days. It's cool how on top of things the Cockos guys are, constantly chiseling away at the app and refining it. They're sort of like the u-he of DAW makers, LOL.

You think releasing weekly builds is a convincing evidence for "constant refinement"?
Actually, having new versions "practically every few days" sort of scares me.

I know, I don't have to install all those releases - nevertheless, I am not used to such a release frequency.

Actually, having such frequent releases _is_ a good thing, because one can easily backtrack to a "not so radically different" version if a major bug appears in the latest build. (Of course, the fact that this really hasn't happened with Reaper -- at least in my experience -- should inspire confidence, not fear. ;^)

Well, to be fair, the whole thing is pretty much painless and take a whole of 20 seconds to do, including download time. On a yearly basis, I probably spend much less time on upgrading and tweaking Reaper than for other software I own.

Yes and no.
I prefer 'no', because I'm sure I'd have lost track on the good vs. bad versions after the first releases anyhow.

But to be clear, I like the Reaper concept (offer & price scheme especially) but just don't agree that a more public development process is a better thing or sign of anything per se.

No way, point taken.

To me it's not a matter of time needed to do the weekly update. It's more about rendering a vendors risk my one prematurely.
But in the end, I don't have to - it's always me who's weak.
