i'm using an m-audio interface but, how do i get the metronome to sound only in the headphones and not in the speakers?

2.- is it possible to midi map diferent fx for the same control? ex. i'm using my axiom 25, i use the pads to on/off fx and the knobs to tweak them.
but, i would like to send the first pad to the Reverb,and use all the knobs i have for that reverb and make a set up, and then turn it off and press the second pad to get a Delay, and use the same knobs without affecting my reverb set up, so that when i turn both on,(delay and reverb) i can get my last reverb set up. cause when i map the knobs and start moving the delay the reverbs tweaks as well.

3.- and the last one is it possible to have gate control on the on/off FX?
so that when i press a pad on my axiom it turns an fx group and when i press out the pad it turns off?

The metronome is not routable afaik. Just use your own clicktrack (or record the metronome) and route that to another output of the m-audio interface.

I believe so yes.

You mean using a pad to toggle a fx group? I think that's possible but i'm not sure about the toggle itself. Maybe you'll have to use two pads, one for on and the next for off. Or is this not what you meant?

1. By default Ableton does put the metronome in the cue outs. All you have to do is make sure your headphones are plugged into whatever cue is set to, and route the master to different set of outs your sound card has.

2. Map different fx for the same control. If you are asking if you can take a delay on a drum track and a reverb on a synth track and map them both to the same knob, yes you can do that. You can also have multiple fx on the same track and map a knob to all of them at once, its very flexible.

3. Yes you can also map the one off switch of an audio fx group (or multiple individual fx) to a button or a knob or a fader, whatever you like.

If your card has 4 audio outputs you can set the cue mix to outs 3/4 and monitor them in your headphones. If you have only 2 audio outputs you can't do it.

As far as I know you can only do this with a Novation controller with Automap.

Map the pad to the on/off on the fx (you'll need to have the pad set to "toggle" mode, if your axiom supports this).

After re-reading your question, there is definitely a way to do this but it might not be as easy as you'd hope for.

1) What you could do is set up an audio effect rack on a dummy clip bus (an audio channel with no audio that you can route your other channel to).

2) Then for every fx you want, create a new chain for each (within the audio effect rack). Force the chains into regions.

3) Create an empty audio clip for each fx in session view and then automate the audio fx rack selector to point to the appropriate part of the chain that applies to the correct effect. This way, whenever a clip is being played, it will only allow that effect to be used.

4) Map your pads to the different clips you created, so when you tap one it will launch that clip (which in turn moves the chain selector to the approprate fx).

5) Map your knobs to everything you want in all the fx

6) In the "audio to" section of the channel strip route the audio to the dummy clip channel.

As you play your song, any audio routed to the dummy clip track should play whatever fx is currectly selected based on which clip is playing, and thus you can use the same knobs on every fx. You might want to create a dry section of the audio fx chain by creating a utility chain that does nothing. You could program it so when you hit a specific pad it goes back to dry.

The beauty of this set up is if you have these session clips set up to quantize, then fx (such as delays) will only occur on whatever interval you specify (such as 1/4 notes or a measure) so you would never lose sync or have sloppy transitions into fx.

Ah well there you go. Never looked at it but i'm not suprised, anything is possible in Live.

It's essential if you use Live for DJing. Handy for pre-listening clips, and the browser when playing live too ...
