Just kinda assumed that Win7 would be bulky and not for use on an older audio PC so I did not consider it.

Just took a look at the system requirements and have to say if their true, its pretty impressive.

Anyone running it on a single core Intel 3ghz (clone)? If so how are your audio apps/drivers running?

What about on a Eee?

Just let me know what you think...

Thanks guys ;)..

That's "lean"?
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

AMD 3800+ - five year old CPU, single core
Crappy ass Realtek onboard audio
Win7 x64 RC1

Occasionally I get a little bit of lag, but that's most likely due to all the development stuff I run... Generally speaking, it runs like a dream :)

Win7 x86 runs fine on an old Intel 1.7GHz, 2GB ram, EMU 1212m, nVidia Quadro.
New Win7 Task Manager gives a bit more processes info than on XP,
but I still prefer a utility like The Ultimate Troubleshooter to kill
non-essential processes, which, imho, is the key to a lean DAW.
I still prefer my Core2 for horsepower.

My old (now deceased) amd 2.4 was a little lagish with 7 vs. xp. There were some audio issues (identical soundcard) and it just didn't seem to be "happy"

This was the RC of win7 though and just my experience.

Oh, and BTW, windows 7 will not play lil wayne/shakira videos.....will be a "error +1" everytime  (and I still want to scrape my head to discharge that "id"eo from memory!!!!!!!)

I'm a bit confused with Windows 7..... are you able to run and install XP 32Bit software on W7 32 with no major issues ?

edit: sorry no major issues other than not being able to play Shakira

I could live with muted audio dirvers in this case but her bendy visuals are a must have :D

Thanks for all the feedback lads!

Looks like it should run fine on a 3ghz then ok ok ..

Any opinions on a 1.6ghz Asus Eee with XP running now? Recommended?

With regards to running XP on it, isnt XP mode for backwards compatibility?

Anyway, its definitely worth a look/try now for sure!

How about XP versus 7? Huh.

Hello everybody. I have a query. I have just got a laptop using windows 7, which I would like to use for music. The onboard sound is good enough to use in a live situation so I don't need to install audio drivers, but I do need a reasonably low latency for the odd bit of midi triggering. Does asio4all work with windows 7. I havn't managed to find an answer to this yet.

^^^ yes works fine. i'm running 7 64bit no probs here.

Good question for those without soundcards!

My soundcard manufacturer suggests using the Vista drivers but should have some w7 drivers soon...

3-4GB OS space (after one months use, 20 programs installed, no temp files) is not "lean".
1GB OS space (xp nlited, 6 months use, 150 programs installed) is more "lean" froim my point of view.

0.9999GB is even 'leaner-er'
