theory of phase

i have been writting now for six odd years, have completed afew tracks like most other people progressed from being crap to developing. i have now been interested in learning about phase using various wave formats, basically im looking to have more accurate spacial control over my sounds obviously making it more detailed without the neccessity to add loads of extra sounds to complicate the mix, i was hoping someone could shed some light or might point me in the way of some resources.
